In the latest issue of MM&FF (October), they test a bonestock 2011 GT500 in the 1/4 mile. The best time was 12.02 @ 119 mph in unfavorable conditions. They tested at Brandenton in Florida in 95-degree heat with high humidity. BTW the 2010 ran an 11.95 @ 120 mph at Englishtown. They did say that the 2011 was quicker than the 2010 and under equal conditions, it would be 2-3 10ths quicker in the 1/4. :burnout:

Thanks for the information. Why would they test the car in hot weather? Seems not to make any sense.

I'm sure they will test it again later this year with cooler temps and at a faster track like Englishtown.

So its obviosuly a drivers race 2010 vs 2011, I am not kicking myself for buying the 2010, lets see i got it for about 8K under what the 11 SVTPP's are going for, so even if the 2011 does preove to be a tenth faster, not worth the diff TO ME, especially all the mods I have got for the money saved.

you can call it a drivers race if you want, but fact is that the '11 SVTPP is much lighter, and has much better tires. the '10s and earlier are at a good disadvantage.

...........and so Evan Smith ran the 2007 model at 12.27 @ 117...........so a little quicker stock but more money (if you didn't pay markups) (of course conditions matter though)

I wouldn't call 100lbs "much" lighter. The 11's start off with an advantage but IMO much of that goes when you start modding either car.

True, but I'd much rather have 100lbs off the nose while modding. :pepper:

It is significant though. It's 100lb's that you won't be able to take off of a '10....and it's weight removed from the front of the car.

Now imagine that weight reduction - with 100lbs less!

Yeah, but that is in ideal conditions (most likely a negative D/A) at a perfectly prepped track.

"most likely" means you don't know right........as I don't....and same mag, probably same track too. MM&FF always beat the crap of the cars to print the best times.....and we all know Evan can plug gears.........he's been doing it for years.

Regardless, with Smith driving you know he'll get everything possible out of a car. For one, you KNOW he'll use a lot of clutch and powershift the car whereas all the other journalists take naps in between shifts and worry about hurting the car....which is why we see other rags getting 12.9's with these cars.

'09 and earlier - 3,920lbs w/ shaker 1000(damn near all of them came with it)
3,850lbs without
'10 - 3,940lbs w/ shaker 1000(same, good luck finding one without it)
3,870lbs without
'11 SVTPP - 3,750lbs

odds are that you bought the car off the lot with the 1000, or you ordered it without. if you have it, that's a 200lb weight difference. and off the nose.

you can cut this a number of ways, but the fact is that the '11s have 10 more HP stock, have 100 to 200lbs less weight, off the nose, and have much better tires. same driver, same conditions, the 2011 SVTPP will be consistently faster, it's not debatable.

...do the same to a 2011 and it's still 100 to 200lbs lighter:shrug:
