If you are talking about using the mirror power wire as a power source thats not a great idea. It should be ran off the fuse box.

If you are using it for a 12v on and off, just use a test light on it.

I have seen that one. It looks like a auto dimmer. Is it the same lay out if I do not have the auto dimmer mirror? Thanks

I am looking to tap into the mirror to power the radar. Just like a wire tap cord. Thanks

I'm not a pro electronics installer, but I wouldnt power the radar unit with the mirror power supply. I'd use a seperate fused power wire, but I guess its personal preference.

In any event keep us up to date with how you do it and how the install comes out. Good luck with it.

Just curious as to why you wouldn't power it to the mirror resource?

The circuit and fuse for the mirror is designed to support the voltage and amperage for the mirror, not the mirror and a radar detector.

Similar to if you have a wall outlet in your house and you put one of those 1 into 4 gang plugs into it and plug in 4 electronic devices. Yes it will work and power your stuff, but for how long before it blows out the circuit or starts a fire or shorts out?

I am very particular with my car, I've learned lessons with cars a long time ago with electronics especially, to do things the right way the first time, because eventually you will have to go back to it to correct it down the line anyway.

Most likely you wont have a problem running a radar off the mirror, I just wouldnt do it that way for my own car. Maybe I'm too picky.

Plus, its only a power wire. Its about $2 worth of power wire and an hour or 2 labor to run a wire to the fuse box yourself to do it right.

just my view on it. Many people and some electronics places even will take the shortcut to do it off the mirror, I won't though. To me its half assed and I woudnt do it that way to a 65K car thats my pride and joy.
