Yup, and everyone up the ladder (meaning companies not the docs/nurses) has record profits, and giant salaries for the CEO.
....it's almost as if there's a better system that exists in tons of other countries where none of this happens.
Ah yes, that's evil socialism. The ****ing you received at the hospital, that's American freedom. You should be grateful.

The socialism is the fact that SNAP recipients can pop out 12 kids, pollute society, not pay for crap, get more back in taxes than they paid in, and the system demands that I pay extra because they don't.

It's wealth redistribution. The "better system" that exists in other countries may work better because there are less leeches on the system. Have you ever worked for a smaller company that is self-paid for medical insurance? All it takes is one chain-smoking tobacco-chewing food blister to ruin the rates for everyone. Why should I pay more because of someone else's poor life choices?

In an ideal system, you pay for services rendered, or services aren't rendered. Nature owes us nothing.

So, the hospital called yesterday with their first "please pay your bills or this is going to collections" warning. I got someone on the phone who was actually really helpful and she said "oh ignore that call, you have two months to make some sort of payment on these." She also said that she can consolidate several bills. I'm just waiting on the last bill to arrive before I get the HSA set up for auto pay. Looking more like $400 a month instead of $700. I told her my plan, she made a note of it in their system and seemed happy that I called back.
