mass air question

when i crank my car i have rough idle for a little bit but if i take my air filter off it smoothes right out.........is my mass air meter bad because after it smoothes right out you cant put the air filter back on and it starts cutting back in and out..any suggestions...?and also about how much would a mass air meter for 30# injectors run?

Do you have the 30# injectors installed with the stock MAF? if so that sounds like your problem. Your MAF needs to be set up to match your injectors, and the stock one is set-up to 19# injectors. Oh and a new meter with calibrated for 30# injectors will run low $200's new.

Also I would look for obstructions in the filter, is it dirty, clogged, old?
