My guess is that Dearborn is hoping that when the Shelter in place orders are lifted, the damage wont be as severe. Problem is that when they do start production again, they need those factories cranking to make money. The last month and through April will probably see an absolute nose dive of sales numbers with the summer not looking good at all. I doubt that even when everything opens back up, we will see pre-COVID buying. Hell, most people have taken decent hits on their credit score, and presumably are just trying to keep essential bills somewhat up to date. For people heavily impacted by the shutdown, my guess is that those people will be skittish on making any kind of large purchase for a while. I predict that Ford will eventually compete with FCA for sales with solid factory cash and 0% terms on a larger chunk of model years and models. I think we will see more aggressive offers when factories start production again, especially F-Series. Unfortunately for Ford, people have seen how aggressively FCA is willing to help dealers move product. I think the average joe looking at an F-Series truck probably doesnt care if he gets a RAM if the RAM is a smoking deal. I know that RAM absolutely has my attention. I prefer an F350 Dually, but a Cummins HO powered Ram 3500 Dually would probably satisfy me as well given the deals on them right now.
