Holy cow we cant get the lower pulley off for anything. 2001 L... stock with 70K.

Is there anything holding the center section and bolt from spinning out? I locked the converter down and removed 1 nut from the main pulley bracket and then put in the hex tool and started wailing on it clockwise with a 2-3 foot torque ranch....no dice.

Am I missing something here...we are putting enough force on it to snap the darn bolt and I DONT want to do that.

thanks!

Step One: Place breaker bar at 7 o'clock position.

Step Two: Place floor jack under end of bar.

Step Three: Jack.

Step Four: Profit.

Thanks for the help!

So to make sure I have this right.

there are the 3 nuts/bolts that hold the entire wheel/bearing assyembly bolted to the block. Like said I only removed 1 of the nuts from that so far....but I suppose removing the other 2 wouldnt hurt anything.
Then there is that big HEX indent in the center of teh pulley.

When we break that hex loose will the whole center section of the pulley just spin off? Also there are some small (2) holes near the center of pulley....there arent any small allen headed bolts in there keeping the whole thing from spinning right?

Would SO suck to break something....already broke the 1/2 to 3/8s drive adapter we were using, so its taking ALOT of force. We weard it crack and though the darn crank bolt thing had snapped! PHEW!

follow the caged arms from the pulley out....

on top one bolt
on bottom two nuts

then center 14mm shaft clockwise...it will spin off.....

there are no hidden bolts or anything like that

Bad news...that pulley would NOT come off.

you guys arent going to believe this, but that metal bracked that I bolted in (TQ stud to the tranny case)....BENT IN HALF we were putting so much force on it! We had a 2foot braker bar and another foot of 2 of pipe on that pushing with our feet....clockwise like you would normally tighten. Even took a 400FTlb air impact wrench to it BOTH ways just to see....thats when we really wailed on it with the cheater pipe and it bent that heavy metal bracket.
We gave up then. :( Someone must have freegin DUNKED that nut in red loktite!

We also bent a chromoly 19MM wrench EDGE WAYS trying to get that thing off. Probably putting 7-800+ Ftlbs on it at the minumum.

Tune is also getting postponed until we can figureout what to do. Im afraid something is going to break....only other thing is we have a 1000+ftLB truck tire air impact gun...BAD BOY, not something you can buy just anywhere. If we can figure out how to adapt it down, that will bust it. If it doesnt bust the pulley, it will bust something loose LOL.

We are also tempted to just sell the lower kit.

BTW this was with my dad pushing....a 250+# gorilla that wasnt too happy LOL

You want that metal bracket to be pulled, not pushed.Put your breaker bar on so it can be jacked up with a jack. Or, jack up the front kinda high and put the breaker bar at the straight down position and then put a pipe on the breaker bar to make it longer. I put a 2foot long pipe on my breaker bar and pushed it with my foot with my back braced againt something.

Yeah man, they're that tight, lol. Like was said already, you want the strap to be pulled against, not pushed. Don't worry about the verter bolt or the bellhousing. The pulley will come loose before either of those breaks. Trust us. We've all gone thru this, lol. You think you may have had a lot of tq on it, but who knows how much of that or how long you were bending that strap. Mash it flat and try again, lol.

I didn't even want to mess with mine, I took it to my mechanic and when I picked it up he told me how tight that thing was on there. "you would've never gotten that off", he told me. He said it took him a few hundred pounds of air pressure... I was glad I didn't even attempt it.

I have fond memories of the struggle Morrison 205 and I had when trying to get mine off. Including the trip to Lowe's to get a breaker bar cut it took about 2 hours to break it loose.

Just keep giving it hell. Perseverance will be rewarded!

LOL I did the same thing at first. I bent the tool. Just wasn't thinking. I took it to the vise and straightened it back out. It finally came off. I just kicked it really hard until it broke loose.

It took me, and LightningClint (Neither of us are little) pushing the hell out of his, until it finally broke loose. This was on a low mileage truck too. We actually broke one of the hex adapters in the front of the pulley.

I had mine on a lift when i took mine off.... i could do pull ups on the breaker bar. I finally had my legs on the lift post just about doing a deadlift to break it loose
