I had good dyno numbers and a/f when I had the pump problems.

Just an update here.
I dissected the failed pump assembly.
One pump was fine, the second one started chattering after a few seconds. One of its bearings had gone bad. It would still spin up, but at a reduced speed and was quite noisy. The obvious result, insufficient output under heavy loads.
