Main Bolts vs Main Studs

I just recently purchased a set of main bolts for my '99 Cobra with the factory Teksid block. I purchased the bolts from MMR because they informed me that the bolts could with stand 1000 hp. I know that there are varied opinions but does anyone have any experience with using bolts as opposed to studs in high horsepower applications? Doesn't the Teksid block have splayed main caps to eliminate cap walk?

Can you clarify your post please? You state that "studs could stand 1000 hp using these bolts" This makes no sense. Unless you are running a a terminator or 3v (my choice) windage tray you only have 1 stud that is used for the oil pump pickup tube stand off and the rest would be bolts. A link to MMR's site indicating what you bought would be helpful also.

I've seen the stock TTY bolts take 700-800. So I'd like to think something like ARP could handle more. However, if you really think you're going to break the 4 digit mark I'd get studs and then get the main bores align honed.

I'd have to see a picture of exactly what you have. To me this sounds like a stud upgrade of the larger inner hardware only. Now I know that if your looking to push 4 digit numbers you need ARP hardware.

I'm not sure I follow you. I gave you the information and the link to the bolts. Outside of the information listed in the above threads, the bottom end has forged rods and pistons from Manley. Stock Crank. I'm looking to supercharge it and get somewhere between 600 and 750 hp max on pump gas.

I know I opened the link and there is no picture of the hardware just a description that does not fully explain what exactly your getting. Like I said from what I gather it's just an upgrade of the inner larger hardware. If it were a full stud kit it would cost double that price.

I think the confusion is stemming from me not knowing exactly what hardware you have. But to answer your original question a teksid or any 4.6 aluminum block for that matter has 6 bolts to secure each main cap where iron blocks have 4 to prevent cap walk. I personally don't like the idea of upgrading the inner hardware (if that's what you have) with something that is not tty (sounds like that's what it is) and having stock tty hardware next to it.

Now if they claim the hardware kit will hold 1000 hp you can run with it but for the powere level your looking to be at I'd use a full arp stud kit.

Here is a picture of the main bolts. They just arrived. One of them (the oil pump pickup stud) actually looks like a torque to yield. It's kind of deceptive marketing. They don't clearly mention it in the listing (400135) on MMR's website. It is only implied. Who the hell would use part TTY and non-TTY if that is what these bolts are. I don't want to make accusations if I don't know for sure but I do not like the description. There are no washers for the cap screws either and the screws themselves have a small washer face. I'm going to just return them and get studs instead of trying to be cheap. IMG_1786[1].JPG
