Anyone done this? I have the option of getting the complete Mach1000 head unit for 40 bucks, but is the swap fairly straightforward?

I always thought the amps, and subwoofer were the difference in systems. I am probably thinking wrong though.

So, I would need to find the newer amps/sub rack as well? I wonder how much they sell for. :??:

Yea its the amps/subs and not the head unit.

You would be better off putting that money towards an after market head unit.

Like it's going to stay anywhere near $50.

I agree, your money is better spent on an aftermarket head unit. Why do you think this guy is getting rid of his Mach1000 stuff? Because there are better aftermarket pieces...

Not to mention the stock units are UGLY.

Personally, i think the Mach 460 is good enough for me, Its enough to rattle the shit out of the interior...

Not for 40 bucks. I'm not looking for an aftermarket head unit, but thanks for the opinions.

Is the rear deck absolutely necessary to use the head unit, or can i re-use my existing amps?

I think if he can get the 1000 system for less than a $100, it would be beneficial. Some people don't want to spend gobs of money on stereo equipment. I love my music to sound good, but I am not going to drop a bunch of money on aftermarket stuff. The Mach 460 is plenty loud for me.

I may look into this as well now, if the whole setup can be had cheap... I'm looking to upgrade from the Mach 460 but not a lot, I don't always listen to the radio.

It won't be 100 if I need those amps/subs, but if I can re-use my existing amps and omit the two 10", it's worth it to me. Nobody has done this?

+1, factory has some good sounding stuff, yes, aftermarket is better, but im not takin mine to a sound contest anytime.. ever. so if someone could upgrade to the 1000 for cheap, i say go for it. i guess im gettin old, but i just dont care for subs and stuff in the trunk anymore, and i used to have all that. i still have 2 polk 10's in the escort, but they hardly ever get turned up

+1 get an aftermarket unit that plays MP3 and such you will never look back. IMOP The factory are good for sales originally but there are better available. Build your own back deck area box with better aftermarket speakers.

Since the only thing different between the systems is the amps and subs, I'd say keep your 460 speakers and throw in a sub or two and an amp to power them. The tweets and mids are good enough to still sound nice and clear and the aftermarket sub will sound better then both the 460 and the 1000's subs.
