My rad is full, overflow bottle is full, coolant is flowing. Just put in a 180 degree thermostat when I changed to the Edelbrock upper and lower intake. Coolant light is coming on...WHY? is it possible the sensor in the overflow tank is bad?

I think I've seen this question on here before. I have the same problem when my engine is cold the coolant light will come on, but once it warms up it goes away. This happens even though all fluids are normal etc. I heard it happens on many other Fords other than Mustangs too. Just an annoyance I guess.

Hey guys, I 've reading posts here for awhile and now joined up.
about the low coolant light, if you have added pure antifreeze
to the recovery jug, it can "contaminate" the coolant sensor,
always add a 50/50 mix or mostly pure water. If you have
added 100% antifreeze and your light is on you can take some
out of the jug and replace it with pure water, this should cure your problem. Hope this helps dude...

Ihad my radiator refilled at the dealer in my 96'gt and there was a bubble in the ststem. All levels read normal but it was just an air bubble in the system. Maybe, maybe not!!!

I did use 100% antifreeze, that's probably it, do I need to clean up the sensor after I add water?

hillie16, you shouldn't have to clean the sensor, just get
about half of the antifreeze out and replace with water,
(you can use one of those suction pumps), but make sure
your level is full when the vehicle is at operating temp.
if this doesn't cure you, then you may need a sensor.
let me know how it does..

I had a little leak on the bottom rad hose to rad connection,(cheap squeeze clamp) and the light would come on when only 1 pint shy. The oil light will come on when I'm about a 1/4 of a quart low, my stang uses this amount about 2000 miles into the oil run. These warnings are awful sensitive, but that is alot better than being too late.

hillie, what year is your car? have you noticed any
leaks that might be comimg from the radiator? 94-95
were bad for leaks between the plastic rad. tanks
and aluminum core. look under it around the bottom
of the radiator support for coolant...also check all
your hose clamps and make sure their tight...let
me know

Checked...no leaks.. I would just automatically assume it's the sensor, but once the car is warmed up, I can shut the car off and restart it and the light won't come on.

Do you have any way of pressure testing it? AFter the car
reaches operating temp. the coolant level should rise,
(in the jug),. I had a 94 with a small radiator leak,
it done the same thing, one time the light came on after I
started it, so I pour water in it while it was running
and the light didn't go off till I turn the key off and
started it again. These problems can be pesky, but I'm
sure you will find it. Put a pressure tester on it, if it
holds pressure (dont go over what the cap is rated for)
a sensor will problably fix you. I'm sure there is a pinpont
test for the sensor though, I will try to find it for you...
