if my car is registered in MA and i get pulled over in NH for "loud" exhaust, does the NH cop have the right to give me a ticket? (i'm talking loud, slp I + off road H). thanks.
Well I'm not a police officer but I do believe that an off road pipe can get your car impounded per federal law so a ticket might not be that bad of a deal. I'm not saying that I dont have an off road pipe.
O/Road pipes are only illegal in some states, due to them not having the cats, and failing emmisions. If it is that loud, it could be considered disturbed the peace, its BS, but you could get pulled over, if you see a cop just try to coast it
Tampering/removing a catalytic converter is a Federal offense.
And yes, the officer can cite you for violation of his state's law. The question is will you win when you take it to court? It all depends on how that state's law is written.
If you were VISITING NH and can prove that your car's noise level is legal in MA then you should be able to go to court and get the ticket dismissed.
You do have to comply with the laws in the state you live in regardless of where your car is registered. SO if you live in NH and your car is registered in MA you are toast .. pay up ...
