just upgrade them to a HID setup, wont cost $40-50 and will make it much easier to swap out colors/bulbs from now on.

I just installed hid bulbs in mine, but they still don't put out much light. The housings have that shield that goes around the bulb to focus/limit the light beam.

I had yellow hid bulbs but they looked greenish, your better off with just plain bulbs. You can spray the housing with some transparent yellow paint too for that extra yellow color, I love how this looks on white vehicles

I sprayed my fog lights yellow and then added the yellow hid's to make sure they came out yellow because I've seen some come out greenish and I didn't want that haha.
I went with ddm on hid's for fogs and headlights

I would think the housing for the fogs is too small to dissipate the heat of 55W bulbs. I would stick with 35W for the fogs.
