You no good trouble maker you :). Yeah, I agree, think if we had a Smackdown forum over there. That could and probably would get pretty intense. I may need to dig that Octane post back up again, I was starting to get pissed in that one :fm: . Oh well, it makes for some fun reading!

Jay,
I still want to know what made you think that post wouldn't get people riled up!!!

lol, I don't even remember your original point about the S/C :D

though you did have some pretty dumb observations/opinions, like the 4-lug comment was just plain stupid, I don't think anyone has broken a wheelstud in anger in a Contour (ie competition, hard driving)

Rara, I think J's point was that out of how many SC'ed Tours how many are running right??? I saw one guys time was a 14.6, another or maybe the same dude was a 14.2. I believe Mark would be the only SCed Tour to dip into the 13s. I do have to back J up on this one (somewhat not totally) on spending 3500 bones on a SC and only getting mid 14s out of it. thats a big WTF???

As for the Four lug thing...I have no clue.

well, a quaife diff costs $1000 and you get 0 hp. i guess that would not be worth it, because it probably only makes a small difference in your 1/4 times. regardless of any other performance gains you get from this product, it simply is not worth it unless you are turning 12s in the 1/4 mile. A centri blower the like vortech/paxton makes its power HIGH in the rpm band. don't expect much in the way of 0-60 and 1/4 mile times from a centri blower on our car. you want a 1/4 mile blower, get an eaton or kenne bell.

My $.02....

Why do you guys (Jay and RT specifically) have such a hard-on concening what a S/Ced 'tour runs in the 1320? The car's are traction/launch limited in stock trim, so of course they'll never run good times in the quarter. I guarentee Mark's car will never run better than high-13's after a quaife and upgraded half-shafts. That said, having ridden in it on a brief highway excursion at SZ01, it can be said that it has more highway pull (80mph+) than a number of bolt-on LT1 and LS1 camaros that I've driven. THAT is the point of S/Cing a tour. Not off the line power, but real world power.

I'm out-

So if we don't care about 0-60 or 1/4 times, whats the point of the SC? There are plenty SCed SHOs out there that turn mid 13s, so why can't the SVT Tours? I don't believe that crap about the Centrifigual aren't going to improve much on the Tours. Ok its a high rpm cars, and I understand that the Centris build most of their boost prolly above 3500....SO? Isn't that why Ford geared the car the way they did?? Where does the Tour normally get most of its HP?? Above 3500?? That "Its not going to improve you 0-60 or 1/4" is BS. I just feel if I drop that much money into something it should give me mid-high 13s. Am I putting the SC down? By no mean.s My point is I feel alot of people make excuses. I understand that Mark is an auto-x guy, that's cool. But alot of people are making excuses that the SC isn't making the power it should on most tours is pathetic. Look how many guys with just a few bolt ons are running high to mid 14s, and someone puts a SC on there Tour and turns a mid 14? Something is wrong...........:block:

If this doesn't make sense its because its late and I should be in bed.

RTStabler51,

I am not sure if you have ever seen a dyno plot of a n/a contour svt. the torque curve is HUGE, 85% of the powerband is at 85% or higher of peak torque. that means we are making ALOT of or torque down low and carry it through the whole power band. 0-60 times are very dependent on low end torque. ET is also dependent on low end torque. While the 1320 trap speed may be quite a bit higher on a s/c car, the torque is not there to get the car's 60ft times in the under 2 second range. If you look at a dyno plot of a contour svt with the vortech you will see the torque curve matches almost ft/lb to ftl/lb all the way to 3500+ and then starts to climb from there. because of the nature of this car you CAN NOT launch at 3500 rpm and expect to get a good 60ft time. so you are forced to use a lower rpm launch and the lower rpm power. if you want faster 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times, don't get the vortech kit. use N2O or get a rootes style blower. Just because a mod is available does not mean it suites your application.

I really disagree with you.

All I have to say is look at the 13sec SHOs out there.

BTW I know the dynos look like hence I have had mine dynoed.

Blah Blah Blah

A. For the S/C, all ive seen is Dyno slips.
B. Ive never seen a S/C run a 13, let alone a 14. (Timeslips)

If you belive a G-Tech to give you your times, then you might as well belive me when I tell you, your sister was good in bed last night. So till then IMHO its a waste of f'ing money, and a waste of a time to install it. Vortech gave us a Dyno when the S/C came out, so why would I care what your car is gonna do on the rolls? We already knew the HP gains.

Honey, there's more to life than straight lines!

Before we say the supercharger is a underuseable waste of money, let's see what difference the supercharger makes in times in a dynamic situation, where one is driving and applying the throttle in varying amounts at varying vehicle speeds and rpms.

In short, let's take the car to the track, preferably a road course, and see how it compares to a similarly set up car without a supercharger. Lap times can be recorded and compared for verification.

This is also where the Quaife shines. People that have driven both with and without Quaife back to back on a road course say it makes a huge difference.

Mark (WorldTour) now runs with in 3 seconds of vipers and he is running faster then most exotics. So I guess you could say the hairdryer is just a waste of money...

Yea, and Brian(Cobra R), said he saw a SVT Contour on the track with his R, pulling better turns then him. Im not saying a S/C Gokart is a brick on the track..all we are asking over here is what can it do in a 1/4 mile or a 60ft? :bored:

So someone for the 10000000000000000000000th time:fm: :bash: :mj: TAKE IT TO THE 1/4!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the excuse for a Gokart, not being a 1/4 mile car is bullshit. Ive seen guys with Ford Escort Wagons, and caravans run on a 1/4 mile. Thats just a lameass excuse to say a GOkart wasnt built for the 1/4. It runs a mid 15, and that isnt bad for a stock 4-door, so whos to say what it can run with a S/C. Thats better then most 3 series BMWs

no one is saying the svt contour CAN NOT perfrom at the drag strip. all we are saying is that the vortech supercharger is not the mod of choice if that is how you plan to run the car. for the 1,000,000 time; if you want a 1/4 mile car, get a rootes style blower, or a progressive 150 shot.

Bret,

I'm not flaming asking a question so don't take this the wrong way.

You keep saying get a roots type SC. Which I fell in love with on my TBird SC, but exactly how do you plan on mounting on a dual runner intake???????

roush, kenne bell, and one other tuner has fit a roots blower on the duratec engine. roush fit one on a svt contour, kenne bell has one for the escape (3.0L) and i can't remember the specs on the other blower, but i know there is one more. the trick is, a roots style blower uses a modified intake manifold.

The simple fact of the matter is, no one has run a properly running supercharged contour, with a decent driver at a 1/4 mile track.

Mark (Worldtour) has run some 1/4 mile tests with a G-tech, and runs a pretty consistant 13.2, that and having driven the car a few times, I would be very confidant in saying the car can run mid 13's easy, we will have to wait until Mark is close to a 1/4 mile track (especially now that he has his worn out 1/2 shafts replaced, etc.)

The other item is that the Vortech kit is highly susceptible to heat soak, and is in dire need of an intercooler. Mark is experimenting with a water/alcohol injection setup until he has the cash to do a proper intercooler setup. (btw, he has had some snags, but overall very promising results with the water injection, expect some >300hp dyno runs in the near future.)
