I found this link and tried to hook my LM-1 up with the RPM converter and laptop :

I can't seem to get a clean signal from this test cable. The RPMs seem okay at idle but holding the engine steady at about 1,200 shows the RPMs going from 920 - 1,360. I repositioned the inductive clamp twice but that did not help.
Anyone else use this method successfully? Would it help to remove whatever wire is in the "test" cable/plastic tube out so the clamp goes over it, and it only?
