Yeah, I am asking about the ignition key that also has the alarm buttons on it. Seems very old school, it does not retract. If the most basic cars have better keys these days. Is there anyway to change the key, its kinda embarrassing for a car that costs as much as ours.

The information in post #2 on the forum thread below shows what I found to work well on my 2008..............

So Robert, what car that key came from and does it have to be from that car?

I bought the flip key on eBay and had the blade cut by a friend on his key machine, and then I had my two original GT500 keys so that I could program this new flip key/fob to my car. It works Great and is fully functional.

I haven't used my original fobs and keys for about 5 years.

Wow thats pretty cool.....what do those run you $$? Then again, something about having a nasty muscle car makes it seem ok to have an old school key lol.

The flip key/fob is under $20 on eBay. To program it to your car, you have to have the two original keys, one to start the programming process and the other within range of the car's system.

If you do not have both original keys, it will probably require a trip to the Ford dealership to get the flip key programmed. <<And that will be the costly part..........

I've always wanted one of those keys! I remember they were quite expensive when they first came out. I just ordered 2 of them!!

Not a cheap route but I put a Compustar remote start system on mine and paired it with a Drone Mobile so I can start my car with my phone.
Not a good idea if you live in hill country and park the car in-gear :rolling:

I would check around programming costs. I know we offer key programming through my work for $35.

I think key + Cutting cost was around $22 done and done. I did the rest in the driveway. You HAVE to have both of your original keys to do it.

I've been using my Audi flip out key for about a year and loving it!

Yes, that is where some owners get into trouble with the key programming, they only have one key that is programmed for their car, and the second key either did not come with their car or it has been misplaced/lost.

I got the exact same key for my '08 after I bought it last year and it's so much nicer than the key and fob separately.

My fobs arrived over the weekend. If you haven't been reading up on programming them, it's a two-stage process. You have to program the key so it can start the car, and you also have to program the buttons to operate the locks, trunk, and alarm. Both look fairly simple and straightforward. I just need to go get the new keys cut, then I'll be in like Flynn, if the programming works.
