If the rubber portion of the intake that mates with the throttle is kinked and folded under allowing air to get in would that cause some pinging ??

Damn computer. Yes, there will be unmetered air into your engine. Maf sees 10 cu ft, adds fuel accordingly. With a leak, say you get 12 cu/ft, but only adds fuel for 10, then comes the bad news.

Yes I had been babying it since I heard It (slight pinging) figured it might have been some bad gas but decided to take a look at it today....fixed it and pinging is gone but It was obviously seriously concerning me...thanks all.
