If you've installed the K&N FIPK -

Did you drill the hole and use the mounting bracket or not?

I drilled it... I was so excited about installing the kit that I didn't think about it. I realize now that it wasn't necessary...

I didn't drill the hole , but I used the bracket tucked it up into large round hole to hold in place

I did drill the hole and here's why.

At least in my case, the air temp wires' plug as bumping on the intercooler fuse box. It was just a hair away..and slight movement caused the contact. better safe than sorry.

I went one step better. I tapped the hole for 1/4-20 and used a washer head bolt. Nice and ridged now. I painted inside the hole with some touch-up paint, and even placed an "O" ring under the bracket so that it is not resting directly on the paint.

The radiator bolt may hold it in place, but was too shakey for my liking.

No drilling for my install. I placed a piece of dark foam padding beneath the corner where the bracket would have gone. This keeps it from bouncing around too much (just in case), and it is not very visible.

I drilled the hole. In my previous car (96 Impala SS) I did not, and eventually the filter vibrated off the mounting ring causing check engine warnings.

BFD, just drill the hole. Why cause undo stress on the radiator bracket for no reason? It's not like your ever going to wish you didn't do it, let's say for example like drilling your front bumper!!! DOE :bash:

Eating a steady diet of government cheese, and liv
i drilled. but then, i drilled for the 2001 kit because there wasnt a 2003 kit at the time. the 2003 kit fit in the same hole and holds it in place better with the second bracket on the radiator support. i like it. its firmly attached and all the flex is now at the plastic elbow where it belongs.

Didn't drill the hole but did fabricate my own bracket mounted in the stock air box screw hole.
