Now that Colorado has legalized a certain amount of marijuana to be in your possession, do you think other states will cave in and allow the possession of marijuana for individuals over the age of consent?

I think with all the "marijuana for medical use" and other things will make society believe we should have it legalized.

It doesnt matter it is still a Federal Offense. This will eventually be decided at the Supreme Court level. As states can make laws more narrow, they cant broaden the scope.

+1. Just another example of why the Supreme Court is the most powerful of the 3 branches of government.

The Supreme Court is not a branch of government. It is part of the Judicial branch of government. But not a branch in and of itself. And without the Legislative Branch there would be no need for the Judicial branch.

Sorry I ment to say Judicial, because of the Supreme Court.

Executive
Legislative
Judicial

Judicial = most powerful because of the Supreme Court. Supreme Court can overturn anything the Legislative or the Executive do ("unconstitional), however neither the Legislative nor the Executive can overturn the Supreme Court. In this instance Legislation has passed the marijuana law, but the judicial will eventually overturn that.

Sorry for the mix up  Oh and sorry for the hijack!

First legalized pot, then beastiality becomes a protected class - where will it all end.

Wow, this is a logical statement. Everyone knows that smoking pot leads to F***ing animals.

Answer, it should end where the general public thinks it should end....is that not democracy?

The general public believes in a lot of things that shouldn't be...if the general public wishes for the legalization of marijuana, rally your stoners and get pressure put in legislation.

I'm 21 and party constantly, but i never understood the whole pot thing. For one it smells terrible. Second why would you willingly inhale toxic chemicals? I don't know, just never got it, I constantly leave parties if they're smoking too much...

But anyway back to the point, quit smoking weed it's stupid.

Not completely true. If the federal Legislative branch were to make it legal, Judicial would not have a leg to stand on. Judicial's position is to interpret what the Legislative writes. The grey area of interpretation is where that branch gets its power.

Yes, but what would happen if the Federal Courts tried to enforce every simple possession of marijuana charge?

The system would collapse!

That wasnt the point. The point is it is still a crime under Federal Statutes.

And no, we dont even arrest for "personal use" possession. We hand it off to state and locals who just give a Desk Appearance Ticket for any amount under 20 grams.

I personally don't see the big deal with pot, never really got into it. If people can drink themselves and smoke themselves (tobacco) to death why is pot such a bad thing. It won't make you get drunk and beat your wife/kids, and a host of other bad things that alcohol and cigs cause.

I just don't understand the big deal. Let people do what they want to do. It's not like coke, heroin, crack, etc

The gov't just has too much power.

That isn't quite right. Even the Supremes must follow the rule of law..and if we don't like their decisions...The legislature can pass a Constitutional Amendment...President's veto can be overridden by enough congressional votes...The framers were pretty clever in the checks and balances put into our system of government.

As to the "weed" issue, don't look for the feds to change. Personally I don't care what anyone ingests...and they can smoke, snort, inject anything...as long as others are not endangered by their actions...such as driving while f**ked up...going nuts and hurting people, etc., and that NO taxpayer dollars go to rehab programs once people do screw themselves up...and that those people who elect to do the drugs..NOT have children for taxpayers to raise..

Legalize suicide?...sure why not...You want to jump off a ladder with a noose around your neck...go ahead...but no taxpayer ambulance trips or taxpayer indigent medical treatment if you aren't successful...just hang til the "buzzards clean the bones"
