From he description:
"FINISH
Through an awesome process called Hydrographics, the intake tube is made to look like carbon fiber. The tube is painted and then dipped in a water solution with a carbon fiber print film that adheres to the part when removed. Tube is then clear coated for a durable finish".

The story I recall, was something about the finish not being up to specs from the supplier. Could be wrong, just hear say. The new ones are not carbon fiber material. I have a carbon fiber JLT CAI. The inside feels like a t-shirt, actual cloth, but I have had no issues with it. The tube does feel fragile when putting the silicone hose ends on it, but again no issues, so it may be strong. My tube, does look slightly milky, not sharply clear coated, again no functional issues.
