Is the 1989 Ford Mustang Metric or SAE?

Engine/powertrain related fasteners are going to be SAE. Fasteners that hold brackets and such on the car are more than likely going to be metric.
this is my experience.

^^^ This. I tore mine apart to the shell, and most components mounted to the shell itself was metric head bolts. ALL motor stuff I used inch sockets, with the exceptions of the ones that convert our similar; ie 8mm to 5/16, 11mm to 9/16, 13mm to 1/2 etc.
