The jury in U.S. District Court in Louisiana voted 12-0 to find Cryer, of Shreveport, not guilty of failure to file income taxes for two years. He had been indicted in 2006 on charges of failing to pay $73,000 to the IRS in 2000 and 2001. The next step in his personal case will be up to the IRS and prosecutors, if they choose to continue the issue, he said....

"There are three points that are important," he told WND. "There's no law making the average working man liable [for income taxes], there's no law or regulation that allows the IRS to contend that earnings are 100 percent profit received in exchange for nothing, and the right to earn a living through any lawful occupation is a constitutionally protected fundamental right, and it is exempt from taxation."

Spokesman Robert Marvin in Washington's IRS office told WND the Internal Revenue Code provides for taxation on salaries or wages, but when pressed for a specific citation, or constitutional provision, he said, "I can't comment."

Cryer's encounter with tax law began more than a decade ago when a friend told him the income tax was sham. Cryer started researching, hoping to keep his friend out of trouble. But his conclusions, after years of research, were exactly what his friend told him.

He researched not only tax laws, but also the documents pertaining to the drafting of the U.S. Constitution as well as the first income tax.

He said throughout his battle, he's offered at every turn to pay taxes if the IRS could show him the authorization, and that never has happened.

"The Criminal Investigation Division and Department of Justice both responded only with 'your position is frivolous.' I had never stated a position, so how could they know whether it was frivolous?" he said. "Imagine my sending you a bill for $1,000 and when you call me and ask what the bill was for I simply said, 'that position is frivolous, just write the check and send it in.'"

His acquittal, he said, was a precedent because it means "people can see and recognize the truth."

He said multiple Supreme Court opinions have affirmed an individual's ownership of his or her own labor, and "exercising your fundamental rights" is not taxable. "It is definitely a trade. What most people receive in the form of wages, salaries or in my case fees that they personally earned for their labor is not received in exchange for nothing."

What a refreshing article this is. It frightens me that the government takes a portion of every paycheck I receive, charges me sales tax on nearly every purchase I make, and then demands a fair sum of money when I file taxes for the previous year. I'm not against paying taxes by any means, but as single man renting with no children, I'm getting raped on taxes.

Yep. Imagine how quickly our government would go broke if the majority took advantage of this and simply quit paying taxes.

Although, taxes, while I hate paying them too, pay for a whole bunch of things I use and take for granted everyday. For me, it's worth it. And being a single father who has a daughter and owns a house, I get big breaks.

So hypothetically... There is now grounds for a class action against the government for a refund of all income taxes that have been paid to date?

Dear lord, I didn't think about that but you're right. If some attorney jumped on that they could make a rediculous amount of money.

While your at it though, stop driving on public roads, next time a crime is enacted, dont call the cops, and when your wife is in a car wreck, forget about the firemen and emt's that will show up. Its a double edge sword. I dont like the illegals any more than you, and i would enjoy the extra money every month, but i like the things i am provided on a daily basis.

I don't think any of those things are funded specifically from FEDERAL income tax are they?

I'm with you about the whole sword thing though... everyone's got to pay in the end.

Its not just federal taxes, they were bitching about sales tax, and some states, like oregon pay income tax. And Interstates are federally funded, or the funding is aided federally. So are federal law enforcement agencies, the coast guard(better never go boating again(

The government doesn't have anything to worry about. Most people cannot afford to fight the irs in court. If this guy was paying a lawyer to defend him he would have spent millions to win his case.

There was a crazy old man that used to come in the casino where I dealt and spouted this crap to anyone that would listen. He supposedly hadn't paid his taxes since like '88. Whenever he won a jackpot, he'd throw a huge fit about giving us his social to document it (you have to, legally). He was in the middle of some huge fight with the IRS about it. Then he just sort of disappeared.....

But yeah, there isn't any "law" that says its okay for the gov't to tax you. Good luck with that argument though.

Federal income taxes pretty much only go to paying interest on the national debt. Anyone that thinks that federal income taxes go to any services that we as citizens depend on, needs to do a little research. Roads and schools come from sales tax and property taxes, not to mention mello roos and the gasoline tax that is supposed to go to fixing roads(Yeah right).

I have health insurance and still pay a S**tload. Health insurance in this country is why many people file for bankruptcy(not divorce), they just can't pay it and plans don't cover Cancer, certain mental illnesses,..,...or other costs besides what the insurance claims they can pay for. The health insurance program & services suck compared to other countries but what can you do.

Now, as far as the Pedro comment you do support Pedro, Ali, Sadam, Abdulah,..in this country and others in the form of foreign aid whether you like it or not you just don't see it firsthand like you see Pedro and Maria having a child at your local hospital.

Teacher's don't learn Spanish and teach Spanish and no books are printed in Spanish, believe me. The cheap ass government not only does not pay teachers enough but fails to even offer supplies in English! Teachers always end up buying their own stuff with their laughable salaries.

It would be very interesting to see a breakdown of federal taxes to show if you and I see any benefit from what we get stolen out of salaries. I can see more use for our local and state tax than I can for federal taxes. Personally, I find is amazing how our shit for brains politicians can first tax your gross pay and then tax everything else you do with your remaining money. Absolutely amazing.........

The Federal government wastes (IMHO) so much money on programs. Programs to help people pay their utility bills. Programs to fund the arts. Programs to fund research into why americans are so fat. (give the money to me, and I will tell you, they eat too much and exercise too little). But at the same time, I support programs that keep wildlife areas intact and accessible to the public. How about this: the government can stop funding all the programs and let us keep that money so we can decide how to spend it. Didn't Mapplethorpe have a photography exhibit that was federally funded? That caused a huge uproar. Let the poeple who want to see the artistic fisting shots fund that kind of exhibit.
