I've been heavily into the SHO game and crowd for the last 5 years and I'm not at a point in my life to build the car how I'd like and do it right. It's fairly expensive to build but I still love the car, which is why I'm at a difficult cross-road right now.

I've always loved Cobra's, and while I prefer the '99-04 body style more, I have a chance to snag a 4V SN95.

First of all, the car. I'm not 100% on the year but I do know its an SN95 with the 4V motor, not the 5.0. Thow owner says it has coil overs, aluminium K-member, BBK Headers and a lightweight flywheel. It needs tires, brakes, paint on the front bumper and the rear passanger 1/4 needs body work, the rear end is blown and it has 122k. Thats all I can see from looking at it and from what he told me. I have yet to pursue this further. He is asking $4200.

My car, its a '95 SHO 5 speed with a lot of work done. It has Koni's, Intrax, subframe connectors, strut tower bars, poly bushings, new ball joints and everything suspension is new within the last 2 years. The only thing I have not replaced is the front sway bar bushings. It also has a 24mm front sway bar, a rear trailer hitch to tie the rear end up, welded fron strut rod cups, larger fronT brakes, a transmission drain pan and a full SHO Source exhaust from the manifold back with two 40 series flowmasters. as well as an origional SHO Shop carbon fiber CAI can. The motor has 180k on it, (but they're mostly high way miles) and 60k since I've had the drivetrain. I've driven from Nebraska to Connecticut and back about 4 or 5 times in the last 3 years which is where most of the miles are form. The interior is in amazing shape for its age and millage, and it has every option you could get (moonroof, keyless, JBL leather etc.). The paint is in great shape and only needs a buff to look brand new. I haven't had the time to do it this summer, and the car is stored for the winter now. There is some rot under the rockers and just starting in the wheel wells, but it is not structural and easilly repairable. I've babied this motor and trans with 3-4k oil changes with the larger FL-1A Motorcraft filter and regular tune ups every year with motorcraft/autolite/dayco parts. I work for a SHO specific shop so all the work is done correctly.

My question is this: Is it fair to trade straight across or should I offer some money on top? Whats a fair price to offer? Thanks for the help, and I'm glad to be on the site. I have been trolling for the past few days doing some reading.

One thing I want to note I found in one of your threads. It stated that the cobra 4.6 was the first motor Ford had that used a water to oil cooler. The SHO went introduced in '89 had a water to oil cooler on the block in between the block and oil filter.

Man, just my opinion but 4200 is a lot for a car that needs like 2k? in parts plus any labor you can't do yourself.

I think for $5k you could get a drivable cobra..

Good luck!

I had a 94 MTX sho, thing was great. Just glad I got to those rod bearings in time lol. I had parts from Sho shop, bittersweat sho, and service done by New England sho specialists lol.. what a throw back.

Save your money for a cobra in better condition for a little more money. You'll be glad you did.

Yeah, they're a blast, I've owned 5 over the last 5 years (a coiple were parts cars)and I worked for NE SHO this last summer. Was a blast. I love the cars but im getting kindof tired of a fwd car. The car handles amazing, but just doesn't feel fast anymore.. I don't mind doing a little work since that's the fun part to me (mechanical engineer student) so I thought this might be a good find. Thanks for the input guy.

I have to agree with the guys man. I would try to find something that atleast has a decent body on it. Mechanical Engineering doesn't teach you about body work. I am a Mechanical Engineer graduate myself. I love messing around with the mechanics of the car, but I used to help a buddy of mine years ago do body work on cars, it isn't very fun. What I am saying is if you don't know anything about body work then you know you have to pay someone to do it for you. I am not saying not to buy this Cobra, but $4200 for a Cobra that needs body work, a blown out rearend and pretty high miles is way too much. I would look around.

I can do body work. I figure the cobra and the sho need about the same amount of $ in body work to get them looking new to I considered that a wash. Im not afraid to get my hands dirty just wasn't sure if there were more things I may be missing about the cobras vs. The sho.

I would pass on the deal as well. Try to search around for one with less problems. You can find one in much better shape for 1-2k more

Pass on the deal.. Keep the SHO regardless and save up money for a good Cobra.. It may take a little bit, but you'll need a good reliable car for when you're modding the Cobra..

Lol.. the SHO is no longer a dd. Ha Its wrapped up under a tarp stored for the winter. On these new england roads the car is way to harsh and I speed too much with it. I top out 3rd gear a few times on a weekly basis. I've got a 95 explorer 4.0 ohv as my dd. 160hp 4500 pound tank to keep my foot out of it.

Thanks for all the input guys, I appriciate it. I still do want a cobra, but ill wait a little longer.. ill do the body work on the SHO and maybe try andd sell it for more in the spring. :) who knows.

Never buy with bad paint or needs body work... it's a $3000-5000 thing to repaint a car.
