Do I need to order gaskets and bolts for cleaning the intercooler or can I reuse the ones that are on it? If I need new, does anyone have the part numbers?

TIA,

if you are talking about the metal gaskets between the midplate and the s-charger..nope. Just don't bend them and you will be fine.

Same goes with the bolts.

Now if you remove the intercooler from the midplate, then yes, they are TTY bolts and are 1 time use. But you shouldn't have to do that.

I have not done this before and at 45k I am sure that I am way overdue. So for a total newbie question, what does the mid plate look like and which bolts should I avoid removing?

TIA,

Follow the how to in the how to section or just look at the post i created when I did mine. The intercooler and the mid plate are together. Theres 4 bolts in the back. Take those 4 out and out will come the midplate and the IC. As long as you keep those together you are fine. I forgot those are metal gaskets.

I have been considering getting a buddy of mine to clean my intercooler for a while. Got my truck used with 70,000 on the clock and now has 110,000 and it has never gotten cleaned since I owned it and highly doubt it was by the previous owner. How many man hours does this typically take?

I just finished mine last night. I went through 10 cans of Brake clean. My truck has 86k on it and it was never apart. Man this thing was filthy! If you follow the "How-To" its not all that hard. Its a good idea as well to take a look at your plugs since you have it taken apart. Mine really needed to have them done. Whoever had this truck before me really didn't take care of it too well

If you've never done it before it could take a while to do. I took my time and labeled everything from every place I took it off of (I never did it before and wanted to make sure everything went back together the right way). It definelty can be done in one afternoon

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. Doing the plugs is a good idea. Does anyone have any suggestions to help with them. I have never done them before and I am sure that the L needs them done as well. I looked at the How To and the link is no good.

Thanks,

I re-used the TB/PL/SC metal gaskets and bolts.
First time since installed from factory they were removed.
I was extremely careful and once I popped the gaskets off, i set them on cardboard with another piece on top and taped it together to avoid bending.
Once I put it back together, I used some Copper Hi temp RTV gasket maker to seal it up.

You can reuse all the gaskets as long as you don't tear the felt gaskets up or bend the metal one that sits under the blower. As far as how long it will take, depends on how clogged up it is with oil. I use Carb cleaner when I clean mine out. It will also help if you get a Oil seperator once you get it cleaned.

+1 on the Oil seperator. Even though my intercooler was never cleaned before the plenum was dry and so was the t/b. As far as which is the best one to get........

I chose the L&S Seperator.
More pricey than others, but is pretty much summed up to be one of the best out there. Guys have ran there's for thousands of miles, pulled the blower, and spotless.
