Intake heat shield?

I think most heat in the manifold comes from the cylinder head by heat transfer through the intake port. You also have coolant ports that are molded into the intake. I doubt you have much radiant heat coming from the engine valley. That insulation could very well keep heat in the intake too. I have heard a couple of folks talk about a phenolic spacer between intake manifold and cylinder head, but unless you have a different way to run the cooling ports, I'm not sure the spacer alone will help all that much. I think a better application for that sort of product would be around the headers. By keeping as much radiant heat out of the engine bay, the less heat you have surrounding the intake manifold.
