Hi guys. New guy to these forums searching for the answer to the age old question. 2009 GT500 with CAI/pulley, 529/513 on dyno, & I'm running 19 X 9.5 2010 GT500 wheels & stock 285 F1 tires. My question is will either the 305 width M/T or Nitto drag radials make a significant difference off the line? I've never run DR's before.I know they'd be better, just wondering how much? I don't race the car, I just would like to be able to floor it in 1st & 2nd without it spinning like crazy.

Yes they'll make a significant difference. I recently mounted up a pair of MT 305's on my car and it's truly amazing. With 800rwh and on these cold roads it still spins in 1st, and a little in 2nd, but that's a vast improvement over the 80-100mph rolling burnouts it would do with regular tires.

On these cars, drag radials are probably the best/biggest performance gain you can make. Sometimes it's hard to justify the cost on a wearable item like they are, but the improvement far outweighs the cost.

To answer your question simply. Yes, they will make a difference and are far better than the stock F1's but its still going to spin some.

Also, welcome to the forums!

I was amazed the difference the MT's made on the street, no more jumping sideways. But they will wear faster, and I have a black dust on my rear after driving. Everywhere behind tires, rear bumper too. But a Cali duster fixes that.

Welcome to the boards. Yes DR's will make quite a bit of difference. Now I run my street tires on a 20 Nitto Invo 315, but at the track I run a 15 M&H 325 DR.

I do not run DR's on the street because I live in S. FL, and it rains...a lot........Bloody O..its raining now ! But for the street, a DR would help you hook up better than those spinyears. I would also suggest a Nitto NT05 or NT05R's as well if you want a grip.

Thanx for the quick responses guys! I don't drive the car in the rain, it's just a weekend toy. More for shows than anything else. It leads a very charmed life! I've been debating on whether to widen the rear wheels & get 325 or wider Michelins, but I just don't know if any street tire will hook as good as I've heard DR's will.

I've run 305's on the stock 9.5's and they fit very well.

Here:

For street duty I run a 295 Invo. Definitely a step or two above the stock Good Year. It doesn't hook like a drag radial but if its atleast 70* outside I can stick a 2nd gear 40mph roll with numbers in my sig

Running a 305/35/19 ET Street radial on my car. Hooked from 1st gear on the street with 740 whp. It did have 285 Potenza's on it and would break them loose in 3rd and sometimes 4th. Tires definitely make a difference. Downside is the Mickey's are pricey and good for maybe 5,000 miles if you're lucky.

Control arms, shocks, and proper setup will make a big difference as well.

That's the tire I'd like to run as soon as my Mickey's wear out. I've heard nothing but good about them.

Same here, although I cringe at the thought of putting anything Japanese on my car. (I'm old & kind of funny about that) But if it's good stuff & the price is right......

I'm on my second set of Nitto 555R's (305/35/20) on the stock PP wheels. Amazing difference on the street.

Just have to be careful in the rain, and like Ninjak said, here in So Fla it rains all the time :) Just have to be careful with the throttle.

FYI...my first set lasted about 10k miles. The second set...probably less, since they went on around the same time as the TVS

I went away from the DR as my full time tire for the rain reason and I got tired of putting rear tires on every year
