Hey everyone,

I'm in the middle of removing my cylinder heads off my motor. I have no instruction on how to do the removal. I had it and lost it. I need info/instructions on how to remove the heads. I got the s/c removed, the intake off and the valve covers. Right now I need to know which cylinder is the #1 cylinder so i can turn the crank to TDC.

Thanks

µ 3. Remove the bolts and the oil pump screen cover and tube (6622).

µ 4. Remove the oil pump screen cover and tube spacer.

µ 5. Note:
Romeo engine shown; Windsor engine similar.

Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve (6A666) from the valve cover (6582).

µ 6. Note:
The bolts are a part of the valve cover and are not removed from the valve cover.

Fully loosen the bolts, and remove the valve cover.

l Inspect the valve cover gasket (6584) and clean the mating surface of the cylinder head (6049).

7. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hose.

µ 8. Note:
The bolts are a part of the valve cover and are not removed from the valve cover.

Note:
Windsor engine shown; Romeo engine similar.

Fully loosen the bolts and remove the right valve cover.

l Inspect the valve cover gasket, and clean the mating surface of the cylinder head.

µ 9. Remove the (A) bolt and the (B) belt idler pulley (8678).

µ 10. Remove the water pump pulley (8509).

1 Remove the bolts.

2 Remove the water pump pulley.

µ 11. Remove the bolts.

µ 12. Remove the (A) water pump (8501) from the (B) cylinder block (6010).

µ 13. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt (6A340).

Use the Crankshaft Damper Remover to remove the crankshaft pulley (6312).

µ 14. Use the (A) Front Cover Seal Remover to remove the (B) crankshaft front seal (6700).

µ 15. Note:
Correct fastener location is essential for assembly procedure. Record fastener location.

Remove the fasteners.

µ 16. Remove the engine front cover (6019) from the cylinder block.

µ 17. Remove the crankshaft sensor ring from the crankshaft (6303).

µ 18. CAUTION:
Unless otherwise instructed, at no time when the timing chains are removed and the cylinder heads are installed is the crankshaft or camshaft to be rotated. Severe piston and valve damage will occur.

Position the crankshaft with the keyway at the 12 o'clock position.

Windsor Engine
µ 19. On Windsor engines, install and fully tighten the Camshaft Holding Tools (2) on both camshafts (6250).

All Vehicles
µ 20. Remove the timing chain tensioning system from both timing chains (6268).

Do I have to buy new timing gears for my cams, or can I use my stock ones? Mark from LFP said I can use my stock ones, but after looking at it, it doesn't look like I can.

you may not HAVE to, but it would probably be best if you did. dont go cheap on parts. make sure everything is done right. ;-)

I was wondering because if the stock gears don't work, I need to order new ones ASAP so I can get things back together. I have either crower or crane cams (LFP custom grind). They are 4.6L keyed cams and it doesn't look like the stock timing gears will work with it. Does anyone know for sure?
