The Core 2 and i7 Technology is nice in the sense that it doesn't generate as much heat or noise as the AMD chips.

aint that the truth. my 6000+ runs my Xigmatec HDT-S1283 full bore like full time, and i have some really good thermal paste on there as well. Sounds like a 747 in my room.

My buddys rig is i7 powered and unless he was gaming that thing was whisper quiet.

Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.93 Ghz or AMD Phenom II X2 at 3.0 Ghz?

These seem to be the 2 most powerful that fit into my budget from the two brands.

I have an Intel i7 920 processor (comes with processor and heat sink), Intel DX58SO motherboard, Vista 64 bit AND 32 bit, and FarCry 2 I'll sell you for under your budget if you want. Send me a PM if you're interested.

I recently started playing Flight Simulator X, and love it! I'm able to run the game at max settings with little slowdown over dense cities (@ low altitudes, that is). Here's my build, completed about 2 months ago.

>Gigabyte EP45-UD3P Motherboard
>Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (currently overclocked from 2.83Ghz to 3.4Ghz with a Hyper 212 cooler)
>4GB Patriot Ram (I'm running Windows XP.. yes I only have DirectX9 :()
>BFG GTX275 OC - 896MB
>500GB Seagate Barracuda + 320GB Western Digital
>600W Coolermaster PSU
>LG DVDRW Drive
