How to tell 28 spline or 31 spline IRS

hey guy I just want to know how can I visually tell if I have a 28 spline or a 31 spline diff in my IRS swapped Mustang GT without taking it apart.
the 99 and 2001 IRS look the same and I don't know which one I have in my GT

I'm not sure that there is a visual way of telling unless you take a half shaft out and count the splines. Theoretically all that should have changed was the end of the shaft itself and the gear inside the diff.

Jack the bad boy up. Take apart one side and pop the Half Shaft out. Then count the splines, then throw her back together. Easy as pie :beer:

what would be the count of splines at the knuckle part of the halfshaft? 28 or 31?

check and see if you still have the stickers on the half shafts, there part number is listed on them..
