So, Today I was doing some testing on the forums, Seeing how each Sub forum, Main forum, Etc Reacted and loaded to my Browser (Google Chrome) I use it mostly for its Development tools and what not. Anyways, Here is my findings, And some of the suggestions, I do not know who Scripts for SVTP. However, This is just some suggestions. After Pinging the website at the IP of (199.27.134.71) This is what comes up,

Test #1

Pinging 199.27.134.71 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 199.27.134.71: bytes=32 time=36ms TTL=54
Reply from 199.27.134.71: bytes=32 time=33ms TTL=54
Reply from 199.27.134.71: bytes=32 time=34ms TTL=54
Reply from 199.27.134.71: bytes=32 time=45ms TTL=54

Ping statistics for 199.27.134.71:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 33ms, Maximum = 45ms, Average = 37ms

Test #2

Pinging 199.27.134.71 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 199.27.134.71: bytes=32 time=35ms TTL=54
Reply from 199.27.134.71: bytes=32 time=33ms TTL=54
Reply from 199.27.134.71: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=54
Reply from 199.27.134.71: bytes=32 time=35ms TTL=54

Ping statistics for 199.27.134.71:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

(The lower the ms, the better.)

As you can see I have a very connection despite the server being located all the way in California and myself being located in Florida.

Onto the website testing. Now In Google chrome you can do CTRL + SHIFT + I To bring up the "Audits" Tester one of the tools I use. If I run a Scan on the webpage with "Reload and Audit on load" It comes up with 8 Errors, 10 Warnings. The one error I'm suggesting that could be fixed it gzip compression. I'm not going to go into what it is all to much, It would take to much to explain.

Below is a break down of what COULD be saved.

(svt.css could save ~8.48KB
yahoo-dom-event.js could save ~20.25KB
connection-min.js could save ~9.34KB
vbulletin_global.js could save ~16.31KB
ajs.php could save ~659B
ajs.php could save ~663B
ajs.php could save ~697B
ajs.php could save ~697B
ad could save ~673B
ads.pointroll.com could save ~2.85KB
v=5;m=2;l=12548;cxt=;kw=;ts=929148;smuid=qSATCp20M1MRMD;p=ui%3DqSATCp20M1MRMD%3Btr%3D-70MSWdZl7G%3Btm%3D0-0 could save ~1.31KB
ads.pointroll.com could save ~1.57KB
ajs.php could save ~791B
v=5;m=2;l=12548;cxt=;kw=;ts=729942;smuid=qSATCp20M1MRMD;p=ui%3DqSATCp20M1MRMD%3Btr%3Dcw_zs1TRVmE%3Btm%3D0-0 could save ~1.31KB
ads.pointroll.com could save ~1.59KB
ajs.php could save ~687B
ping could save ~181B

That is around (~67.93KB): Or so per page load. Say 100 people Load the page, that is 6793KB or around 6Mb and some change of Wasted Usage!

100 = 6 Mb

1000 = 60+ Mb

10000 = 600+ Mb

And that's just for one page.

Lets take a look at one of SVTP's larger threads, Say this...

http://www.svtperformance.com/forum...74-svtp-test-oil-filters-sponsors-needed.html

Same Test Done on this thread as well,

Compressing the following resources with gzip could reduce their transfer size by about two thirds (~292.41KB):

I won't post the full log, It would be to long! However, It came up with the possibility of 292.41 Kb Or so.

292 x 100 = 30 or so Mb (My math may be off slightly,)

292 x 16,000 (Rounded off) = Over 4 Gigs of data!

I am not sure how much Bandwidth on a daily, or weekly basis SVTP has pushed through it. But its alot Anyways, There's alot of other stuff I'm testing, Looking at Etc.

Here is a link to a a topics that want some more proof to this theory.
What I am looking into next removing unused CSS Rules, I don't know all to much about it. But looks promising.

How To Optimize Your Site With GZIP Compression | BetterExplained

This is thread is purely informational, I am only trying to help out SVTP some, That is all. I am by no means a professional Web designer or Coder.

Have a good one guys, Too a better SVTP! :beer:

I already have a 50 Meg Connection You can't get much better unless you go to Fios or a pure Business line. You have the fastest connection, But if the Website has snags, All that power goes no where sadly, I already showed you that my internet connects to the server just fine. :)

The DB servers are still f'd. This happens every time we get an influx of new members or a lot of extra site traffic. It's also the reason for the downtime a few weeks ago.

Sure, page optimization would help a bit, but fixing the DB server is the only thing that will actually straighten things out.

Yeah I guess, I'll look into stuff to take a load off the server(s) CPU and Network traffic,

I'm looking more into it guys, If any guys have any quick fix's or what not, Feel free to chim in. Otherwise Alot of this stuff is going to have to be done site wide programming. However, It may be your connection so do a speed test to somewhere in California and then post up your results

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

^This works great, If your having networking problems, I'll try to help.
