How necessary are new plugs?

I am upgrading to a 4lb pulley and chip. My current mods are Bassani cat back, and an open filter. I know a lot of people recomment a new set of plugs, but how necessary is it?

Is it just beneficial to help with power gains? Or required to make sure there is enough spark?

BTW: My truck has a stock replacement set that has under 20k miles.

Required. The stock plugs are gapped way to much and are too hot of a heat range for the added boost. TR6's are cheap insurance and changing them isn't as bad as you think.

Sounds good. I will go ahead and pick up some TR6's this week and be prepared to embark on that this weekend.

Thanks.

Well if a GIRL can change them we shouldn't be worried right? :p

Good to hear from you Mai, I hope you are having a good vacation.

Is there any other plug that you can use other then the tr6?

Yes there are other choices but for the money you cannot beat the TR6's. I've used them exclusively with no problems (on my third set).

Yea, they aren't to bad to change. Just be careful not to drop that 7mm bolt that holds the coil packs down. Get some electrical tape and tape it to the socket when u feed it through to attach the coil back on.

2 (two) bent intake valves 4 (four) destroyed exhaust valve guides.
A head that was warped 3 thousandths and a detonated spark plug.

Thankfully mine is being covered under warranty.
But if you are going to over boost...use the right plugs! As I was taught.."do it right the first time or dont do it at all" sadly in my case the original owner of my truck didnt do it right the first time..and I paid for it :)
Now I get a freshly rebuilt head with a set of TR6's gapped to .038 (Bobs suggestion)...no phucking around this time.

Same thing here. Destroyed a lot of stuff. Never trust other people to do the work. Replacing the heads with patriot stage 2 ported heads and of course proper spark plugs Denso IT22

get with steve-o and you might be able to change them at is house, he has all the swivels, and necessary parts to change the plugs, took him about 15min to do mine, but I would also invest in some coil pack screws, makes the plugs so much easier
