Which branch and what is your job?

I go on the 31st to swear into the army and hopefully there will be an open spot for 18B(SF weapons specialist) or 18C (SF engineer specialist). If not I guess I’m going in as 11B and then after basic off to ranger school.

Army here. You don't just choose to be and 18B or C. If you are lucky enough to make it through SOPC, SFAS, then they'll will put you in an MOS based on you interest, GT scores and needs of the Army. Good luck have fun.

Whats on your contract? I am leaning towards you being 11B.
I take it you are heading to Benning. Good Luck.

Army here too  I am almost out.

SF :uh oh:

If you make it right away a big

Start 11b Infantry then work your way up to Ranger

I know that you have to go threw the SF courses to become a SF, but SF is a choice of jobs based on GT score(which I think is a 110 to be able to enter SF or warrant officer flight program). Like I said if nothing is open I will work my way up from infantry. Thanks for the good luck.

Thanks. I hope a spot is open for SF but if not oh well. Nobody deserves things the easy way work for it and its more of a reward when you achieve said goal. I don't think i will be able to get SF because of open spot avaliablity(being people that are already inlisted get priority over recruits) right now.

Yep. I wont get shipped out until spring because of college classes. So I have a little bit of time to get into the perfect shape. Plus being ex football player its fairly easy for me to get into any kinda shape I want.

I know in 2005 SF was still hurting for recruits. I believe you can get it all in your contract now and as long as you make it through every step they will send you to the schools you have in your contract.

If you score 110 or higher on your ASVAB get an intelligence MOS and Airborne in your contract. That last week of Airborne School the Rangers will come by your platoon and talk to you. If they like your MOS they will ask if you want to go through RIP. Volunteer for that.. it's a 3 week indoctrination program to weed out weak recruits. You do that and you will head off to one of 3 Ranger Batallions in the US. When they think you're ready they will send you to Ranger school. So here you are an Airborne Ranger with a Top Secret Clearance specializing in intelligence. Is that marketable enough for you?

I will have to keep that in mind and Thanks for the info. As far as i know SF isn't hurting right now i talked to 4 guys that went in at different times and SF didn't even have a spot open. Is there any good info on getting ready for the asvab?

Did you take the practice one? Tell the recruiter to give you a practice one that way you can be prepared. I only scored a 67 :dw:

Yes, go to a bookstore and get a guide for taking the ASVAB. It should have tips and practice tests very similar to the sections in the test. Should be with all the SAT/LSAT Guides. This will significantly raise your score.

I scored a 59 because I got sloppy on some of the math problems. Trying to get threw it to fast I think.

You're going to want to take it again and raise it by at least 10 points.

Feel free to pm any questions and let me know what the recruiters want to do with you before you sign up for anything.

I was in 3rd RANGER Battalion (FT. Benning GA).for my enlistment and loved it! Now I work in Iraq doing some pretty cool stuff. You can't go wrong going Spec ops. Normally you don't go to RANGER school until you've been in the Battalion for about a year. But Ranger school is not all that, its just a suck suck school. You only learn regular army tactics. You learn all small operations tactics in the actual Ranger Battalions.

Army here. When I was originally on active duty I was an 11C (infantry mortar), I also did 2 years as a recruiter. I got out and was involuntarily recalled to go to Iraq, so if you have any questions let me know. Good luck!

13B here, went to Benning for School then got out and joined the Reserves as an MP, then I got re-classed as a 63S Heavy Wheeled Mechanic so now I'm the Motor Sgt. in out little 8 man company. Been there, done that. Oh, went to Ft. Campbell for Air assault and Bragg to get my wings after Infantry School. Get prepared for alot of damn PT in the infantry, hell, jump school was fun until Graduation. I'm sure some of you guys know what I mean by that! It's been a great experience though, very challenging so tough it out and have fun at it.
