How are you A6 guys launching? (non-transbrake)

Are you guys foot braking up to a desired RPM or are you leaving from idle? Trying to figure out a suspension plan but figured I'd ask what some guys have been doing to leave effectively from the line. This is assuming you don't have a trans brake. I know stall speed might play a part in this so list if you're on stock converter or not. Thanks for any info you can provide!

I did a little test on this after a few passes last time I was out at the track. I did one pass foot braking up to 2500 rpm, and the next pass I left off idle trying to flash the converter.

Foot brake to 2500 rpm: 11.203 @ 124.72, 1.67 60'
Leaving off idle: 11.225 @ 124.44, 1.68 60'

So, it's a gnats ass faster foot breaking for me, but my reaction times are also better when foot braking. I'm on a Circle D 4C converter.

I was leaving about 1,200 on the stock converter and cut a 1.931 60ft on my 20" Velgens.. I was surprised it was that good.. these cars feel like turds off the line with the stock converter.

We have 2 step set for 1700rpm with the stock converter. Cant say anything about the track because never been with the car.

Thanks for the input and times. My buddy has a nitrous setup and swears it's better to leave at ideal. I just don't see how though other than from a suspension aspect of not pre-loading it too much. I have a 2C and seem to do well around 1800 but also have done well at an idle, no times to compare on my end however.

I fottbrake and use the E brake as my transbrake and load the car up on the converter and hit it. Nitrous out of the hole and everything. Even on slicks it ain't much better than 1.8 60'. The stock converter makes the car usually quicker on the street where traction is already minimal, over the manual but, the manual definitely has the capacity to be faster at the track. Having had both, I can definitely confirm this. A converter in the automatic will destroy the manual at the track, 9 times out of 10.

If you want times best for me was 1.674 60 foot leaving at 1300 rpm on MT ET Street 275/60/15's. People have gotten lower. The auto's are geared so low I am not convinced a converter will help all that much. If I added Nitrous it would be set so it doesn't kick in until after the 60 foot for me.

Best 60 for me is a soft 1.61. That's footbraking to 1100. Stock converter, 79mm pulley on 325/50/15 radial R's, 3.15 rear gear

OP- How much boost you running with that JT? And what are your 60 foot's now? I get 1.41-1.42's pretty regularly with my 5c stalling it to about 2500. I am getting ready to pull my converter and have it tightened to a 2 or a 3c and let my D1 eat instead of wasting energy on the 2nd 1/8th- car goes 6.41-6.44's 1/8 mile - runs out of rpm on the top end(at about 1000') cause of my converter not locking-( tune issue) ( need to get revised). NA or boosted I have always had better luck stalling mine hard against the brakes and tires even when it had the stock converter in it

3.15 gears with a stock converter. Leaving off idle was always slower for me. Foot braking to 1200-1400rpm was marginally better every time. Best 60' is a 1.67 so far with a TVS. Trap was 130mph.

I have tested this with several cars. Some with converters some without and the results are always the same. Foot breaking has always resulted in quicker 60s. But you should try it for yourself just to make sure.

My Whipple Car cut's mid to high 1.50's either way. However like said above my RT's are quicker foot braking.

My car always liked a little foot brake of the stock converter too. Best of 1.53 starting out on 9.5lbs on 93/Torco in good air. Same routine now with the extra boost, E85 and front runners has produced a 1.39.

I leave from idle. Best 60' is 1.42 with a 4C and stock suspension with front sway bar removed.

Since posting here last, I've been able to improve a little: Footbrake to the max the car will take (stock converter), e-brake pulled to prevent it pushing through the beams or starting to line spin, let everything go and mash the gas + nitrous 100 does 1.7 60' regularly. It still feels soft compared to the violence of my old stick car coming out with a drop clutch launch at 4500 but, it's only a 1/10th off on the 60 foot, compared to that. 11.48 at 120.64

I'm trying this with 150 next time out...going for 10s on this very mild car. Mods are sticky tire, poly UCA and LCA and...GT500 mufflers.
