I just did an active duty funeral yesterday for a young lady that decided to take her own life. She left behind a husband and 2 kids. She was 8 months pregnant.
I did an "unofficial" ceremony for a pilot who did the same thing. The AF declined his right to an official HG ceremony because of the nature of his death. We got a 20 man team together and did an off the record ceremony complete with flag fold, colors team, and firing party for his family and friends.
I have done quite a few active duty funerals. Nothing more saddening than watching multiple BUSES of fellow Airmen and family pull up with tears in their eyes.
