I'm looking to buy a camcorder in the next few days. I am told that MiniDV is better....especially for capturing on the computer. My wife is thinking Hi8 because of the price. How much difference is there between the formats? She's wanting me to keep it 300 bucks or under. I know I'm not gonna get the best, I can't afford it. I just want a decent camera that will provide good video when captured to pc. Any recomendations or suggestions?

Thanks ya'll.

You get a longer recording time per-tape with Mini-DV, and the quality is the same and sometimes a little better. There are a few nice Mini-DV's under $300. I bought mine from http://www.bhphotovideo.com, which usually has awesome prices.

I have a Panasonic 3CCD Camera, great colors, I watched the videos on my 55" widescreen tv, and the picture is awesome, much better than my 4 year old VHS-C Camera.

Also, editing the video is easy on the PC, plug it in the port and you can control the camera from the PC.

here's a great site for finding info on cameras, the camera I have is the Panasonic PV-GS120

You can do searches for cameras according to price range and then read the reviews on them, also It lists places to buy it from and their price.
