im recently single (23 this month) and seriously thinking about the Army. im wanting to do something computer/intel related and with a benefit of having a civilian job on the outside once i get out. having "clearence" sounds neat and im only guessing that means $ on the outside but not sure.

something in the 35 series?

I think you answered the question for yourself? Get something in the intel feild and with a clearence. Im not in the military but have many friends who are and I am thinking of joining as soon as im done with CC. Are you wanting to do that job in the army because of the civilian factor or is it something you really want to do? Civilian counterpart is good and all but you also have to consider doing something you think you'd enjoy doing for at least 4 years.

Intel, CI, SigInt,.... not sure what the Army eq is but radio repair tech. Computer systems, analyst/repair/network coordinator etc.... Avi

All of the above require a Secret or higher clearance. All will get you major $ AND skills on the outside.

Im a 25S, look it up and see if its for you...Ive been in the Army for only 16 months now but am 23 years old as well and have been told over and over how well this job transfers to the civilian world. And yes, you must be able to get and obtain a secret clearance and if you go to the right base you will be allowed to get a top secret clearance (IF you can pass the EXTENSIVE background check). Cant give too much information about what exactly we do, but there is some info out there on us and if you have any questions message me. Good luck on your decision.

Yes the textbook description does match exactly what we do as satellite systems operators and Im currently deployed and only an E-3. However, some of the people I went to AIT with got sent to other units for different tasks. So even though you might obtain a certain MOS like 25S, you could be tasked out to do a 42A (desk work) to meet the needs of that unit.

I was 5'6" and 130 lbs when I went in SF back in 1989. A SGM now and you get the chance to be an 18F, fun right before being the team daddy!

Secret clearance is not as enticing in the civilian sector as a TS/SCI clearance. Last I heard the rough estimate for a civilian company to get a TS/SCI clearance for one employee was around 225k so yes any mos with a TS/SCI clearance will be a good benefit in finding a job when you ETS. Remember TS/SCI clearnaces only last 5 years so make sure you re up your clearance if you decide to get out after the first contract.

Have you taken the ASVAB yet and if so what is your General Technical (GT) score? GT score is the most important score for the 35 series. Recruiters will look for a GT 110+ for 35 series. If you have not talked to recruiters or taken the ASVAB my suggestion is to go ASVAB and try it out.

Just remember before you sign anything do your research and go into the recruiters office knowing what you want and dont take anything less. This will be a huge change in your life make sure you go into it with the mindset that you are doing this for a career and research which MOS's net better jobs on the outside. Don't look at the contractor jobs making 200k+ a year either those are dwindling and will be almost nonexistent in the near future.

I took out several MOS's from this list only becuase they are identifiers for E8 and above

Military Intelligence Branch MOSs:
• 35T MI Systems Maintainer/Integrator
• 35F Intelligence Analyst
• 35G Imagery Analyst
• 35H Imagery Ground Station Operator
• 35H Ground Surveillance Systems Operator
• 35K Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Operator
• 35L Counterintelligence Agent (only available to reclass E4P and higher)
• 35M Human Intelligence Collector
• 35Q Translator/Interpreter
• 35N Signal Intelligence Analyst (Linguist)
• 35P Cryptologic Linguist
• 35U Multi-Sensor Operator
• 35S Signals Collector/Analyst

If you want more information regarding these MOS's and what they do both CONUS and OCONUS send a me a PM
