Before anyone gives me shit about not doing my own homework, i just want to say I've been doing the pascals triangle/perfect squares crap all day and i don't know how they relate with these problems. If anyone can answer any of these it would be greatly appreciated.

If a family has 10 children, in how many ways could the parents have 6 boys and 4 girls as children?

Suppose you have written down all the numbers from 1 to 15,000. What is the total number of sixs you have recorded?

Can anyone figure this one ^^^^^

2850. There's 19 6's in a 100. 15000/100 = 150 times 19.

Nope, i guessed 2776 ( 1 in the '15') (20 in the '150') (200 in the '1500') (2000 in the '15,000)
but i was wrong.. i have no clue how to do it.

got it, 5500 microsoft word + ctrl f

going quickly i got 4920. but i propably lost some.

20(20 in 100) x 8 ~ 160 + 120(600's) ~ 280 per 1k

280 x 8 ~ 2240 + 1280(6000's) ~ 3520

280 x 5(10, 11, 12, 13, 14, up to 15k) ~ 1400

3520 + 1400 ~ 4920

or maybe 5480 unless i did the math wrong(diff. than first idk how but it was) but im confident its one of my 2 answer and if there both wrong oh f'n well

Ok..not to sound like an ass....ok, yes I am.....WTF would you need to know how many 6s are in 15000 for? I mean seriously.

And I LOVE math. That and history was my favorite subject, but WTH.

Come on people.... do it the easy way. Put it in excel. In cell A1 type 1. In cell A2 type =a1+1 then drag it down until the numbers equal 1500.

Then edit>find Find what = 6. Click options. Tell it to search by Values. Now click find all. Boom. There's your number. 366

Edit: Make that 4792. I didn't go all the way down to 15000.

I think it's a trick question. The number 6 appears only once between 1 to 15,000; or one to infinity; or one to seven. A check to see if you are over-thinking a problem. The statement as you posted it only asked for six, not numbers with the symbol for six as part of that number's expression. By definition any two-digit number, whether it has the symbol for six in it or not, is not six.

You sure you worded it exactly as it was written? Does your prof have a sense of humor?
