folks,

So I face planted two weeks ago and fell hard! I naturally used both of my hands to break my fall and protect my face kissing the floor. Imagine you trust fall forward and use your hands to break your fall like you are in a push up position. I used all my strength and my face didn't even hit the ground. It was my chest and thanks to my hands breaking the fall, it wasn't bad at all.

Well, until like a few days passed and I realized I can't absolutely put any weight on my right hand. I can punch just fine but when I open my hand fully or bend it at maximum forward or backward, the upper pal / wrist area is very painful.

It is so painful, I can't even get in a push up position. There is no swelling or bruising. I got an X-ray done and nothing is broke.

So.. Obvious damage to the ligaments, and whatever else is in there. Any tips on how to recover as quick as I can from this? I figured I would ask to you guys as I m sure some of you have experienced this before.

Ibuprofen simply hasn't worked. I need this to heal up in a month because I am gonna be involved in a work related physical activity for promotion reasons and don't want to miss my chances.

Ps been two weeks and the pain is still the same with no improvement whatsoever.

Thanks folks

If you can make a fist I doubt you damaged any ligaments. Rest it for a while. I lacerated my wrist on glass. 4 ligaments, ulner nerve, and an artery. I got to learn the hard way about my hands mechanics.

I had the same thing happen after a Spartan race. I would recommend a 2nd opinion as well, but I never went to the doctor because I'm stubborn/a dumbass. I just used extra strength Tylenol (500mg X2), ice, and a heat pad and after a couple of weeks I was fine.

Naproxin will help with inflammation. if there is nothn broken a second opinion isn't gonna amount to much. ligament was stretched. RICE is all that will help.

had same issue slipping in some animals urine in the housing projects where I work and put hand down to break fall after falling down flight of stairs and stretched ligament in my left hand really bad. Time and not using it is all that helped me along with Naproxin.

if persists then an MRI will be needed. and mine took about 4-5 weeks to heal.

I have like 10 bottles of Naproxin that I don't use if u need a couple bottles lmk and ill ship em out to ya

X-rays dont always show everything. But it doesnt sound like you did any major damage. Likely just a sprain. Especially since you didnt describe any discoloration/imflamation.

Rest will be your best friend. Do ice for 15-20min a couple of times a day. Some Aleve will help too. You can also wrap it to further support it and prevent aggravating it. Make sure to eat food with high Omega3s and antioxidants. Again, rest will be your friend.

Thanks guys! You guys are awesome! I got a bunch of disposable ice packs and a big bottle of Advil.

I m currently sitting in the waiting room area of an orthopedic doctor. Fingers crossed that he doesn't think it is a big deal. I need my hand to heal so I can get this career upgrade. If something is wrong with my hand, possibly I will say goodbye to my chances and I have been waiting for this for years

My doctor prescribed a trans-dermal anti-inflammation cream that targets a specific area. Seems to work and might be worth a try.

You are smart to see a specialist. If you make a living with your hands you can't **** around. Good luck

Definitely want to see a specialist whenever possible. One of my in laws recently had his hand/wrist crushed in a car door while on vacation. Went to the local hospital, and they never told him to not get on a plane. He got on a plane to come back home, and got compartment syndrome. His hand/wrist is ****ed for the foreseeable future. I believe its going to require multiple surgeries from what he told me.

Lol.

Doc said most likely a bone contrusion and will take time to heal but ordered an MRI anyways

I work in radiology and sometimes it takes 3-4 days for a break to show up on an x-ray. MRI is expensive. I would wait and have a followup x-ray done before jumping right to MRI.

Sorry to hear OP. I did just about the same thing as you during a thanksgiving day pickup football game this past fall. I braced my fall with my left hand and it didn't really hurt too much at the time. As a few days went by the pain got worse. The pain was in the exact same area you described. It was definitely strained ligaments and unfortunately it has taken me a ton of time to heal. I'm still feeling discomfort in my wrist almost 6 months later. My problem is that I tried to basically ignore the pain and continue on as if it wasn't injured...which probably made it worse and increased my healing time.

I know you are a gym rat and I also go to the gym myself. I would suggest avoiding traditional arm curls altogether. I didn't, and it really set me back I think. I switched to doing basic hammer curls and pull downs...stuff like that to take the strain off the wrist. In a traditional curl form there is apparently a lot of pressure on those ligaments. When doing hammer curls there is no strain on them.

@musclefan21 - Been a while brother.

Sorry about the injury man.

I've had multiple contusions in my hands, broken fingers/knuckles from my days of fighting. I still get minor contusions/swelling from working in the warehouse and around the house. I can suggest a few things for more rapid healing:

Ice. A lot of ice. Get a small bucket or a large bowl. Fill it part ways with water and a lot of ice. Keep your hand in there for 20-30 minutes.

hand movement: Practice gripping firmly repeatedly, but, slowly and ease into it. The more motion your hand has, the better. When the bones bruise the muscles and ligaments around it tend to tighten in, furthering the swelling and creating the pain you're feeling.

Magnesium oil - Great shit. Buy it on Amazon (brand I use is Ancient minerals I think) and you rub it on. It's great for the bones and your muscles. Apply it twice a day, especially a heavy coating at night.

Zinc - Drink a lot of it.

Do not take it easy, but, don't overdo it. A little bit of paint isn't bad. If you get to the point where it hurts more than a knife in your rib, back off of it.

Good luck and keep me posted on the progress man. I'm sure things will work out with the hand.

Oh, stop masturbation. You retain a fixed position while stroking and it is certainly not conducive to your hand's health.

PS - RDJ posted in Donut shop for IL Leos. Holla back at him yo!

Deep tissue bruising would be my thoughts raced motocross dealt with it a lot. Tramadol is non narcotic and heat then ice then repeat just what I encountered hoping it is simple as that for you good luck.
