1999 Audi A4
5v 2.8 V6 with a 5-speed tiptronic auto
125k miles -- $4800

It's in decent shape and definitely gets the job done. I can get around 30 mpg on the highway. It's not everything I want, but hey, it's just a daily driver I need to have for the next couple years, and when I'm done school hopefully I'll add another pony to the stable.

Same year or close to it with same mileage, WITH 1.8T has a lot more potential to screw up your budget.

These are pretty old, high mileage, German cars we're talking about here. Get with the program.

Who cars about power at this stage anyway?

Whats the difference between an A4 and an S4?

the b5 a4 came with your choice of 2 engines. a 1.8 turbo 4, or a 2.8 n/a 6. with a 5 speed auto or 5 speed manual.

the b5 s4 came with the 2.7 biturbo 6 and choice of 5 speed auto or 6 speed manual.

the s4 had bigger wheels, bigger brakes, painted lower body panels, different front bumper, grille, etc. it had standard HID's and also came with sport bolstered interior. it also had an upgraded suspension etc

check out my 2002 b5 s. its my daily and gets around 30mpg highway
