Well this morning I got pulled over :cryying: but the cop was cool it could have been worse. He got me for modified exhaust, no present licence and no insurance. Me being a dumbass didn't realize that my plates were not up to date (expiered) and he also said that he could have towed my car but he DIDN'T :burnout:
But anyways I do have insurance and I do have a licence but my question is can just leave my spin tech mufflers on and just put my stock H pipe on or do I have to go completly stock because the cobra stock exhaust is louder than a regular mustang and my spintech exhaust isn't much louder than the stock cobra exhuast

i don't remember the actual code that i was cited for, but it was for exhaust being too loud and i ended up just paying the fine, i didn't have enough time to get the pipe changed out because of school and work. the fine was $125 i believe, you can call the court house to find out.

It should be listed on the ticket. That will help Mark give you a more accurate answer.

Off-road. That's what i figured. Wow it definitely could have been alot worse for you. That's great that's all he wrote you up for. :) I have to wonder though if mine will be too loud with spintechs.

I would say, mount up your stock mid, they'll test it, the worst that can happen is that you fail the sound test and your back to where you started and can take the next necessary step.

Good luck man!

It must be loud!
Since cops here in California don't (yet) carry DB meters, it's a judgment call.
Stills sucks...

I've posted the section you were cited for and also the one covering the referee requirement for getting it signed off. I would re-install the complete factory system to make sure you pass the first time. Good luck.

27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor
vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted
by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance
with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits
established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with
Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an
exhaust system so modified.

27150.2. (a) Stations providing referee functions pursuant to
Section 44036 of the Health and Safety Code shall provide for the
testing of vehicular exhaust systems and the issuance of certificates
of compliance only for those vehicles that have received a citation
for a violation of Section 27150 or 27151.
(b) A certificate of compliance for a vehicular exhaust system
shall be issued pursuant to subdivision (a) if the vehicle complies
with Sections 27150 and 27151. Exhaust systems installed on motor
vehicles, other than motorcycles, with a manufacturer's gross vehicle
weight rating of less than 6,000 pounds comply with Sections 27150
and 27151 if they emit no more than 95 dbA when tested in accordance
with Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998.
(c) An exhaust system certificate of compliance issued pursuant to
subdivision (a) shall identify, to the extent possible, the make,
model, year, license number, and vehicle identification number of the
vehicle tested, and the make and model of the exhaust system
installed on the vehicle.
(d) The station shall charge a fee for the exhaust system
certificate of compliance issued pursuant to subdivision (a). The
fee charged shall be calculated to recover the costs incurred by the
Department of Consumer Affairs to implement this section. The fees
charged by the station shall be deposited in the Vehicle Inspection
and Repair Fund established by Section 44062 of the Health and Safety
Code.
(e) Vehicular exhaust systems are exempt from the requirements of
Sections 27150 and 27151 if compliance with those sections, or the
regulations adopted pursuant thereto, would cause an unreasonable
hardship without resulting in a sufficient corresponding benefit with
respect to noise level control.

Get it tested to see if it's less than 95 DB? Something like that. I remember my friend did that and it passed, and so they threw out the ticket. Sad thing is, it's up to the cops discretion to see if he thinks it's too loud, so if he felt your stock exhaust was too loud, then I suppose he could ticket you for it...
