Crazy turn of events but thankfully the trooper doesn't appear to be seriously injured.

According to Illinois State Police, an Illinois Conservation Police officer conducted a motorist assist for the driver of a van from Ohio. It happened on Interstate 88 near Rock Falls at 10:44 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013. After the assist, the driver called 911 and made statements that prompted law enforcement officials to conduct a second welfare check.

A trooper and the conservation officer conducted a traffic stop to determine the driver's well-being. That's when the driver made a u-turn and slammed into the trooper's squad car, pinning him. ISP says the man accelerated into the trooper's car. That's when the conservation officer fired his weapon. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both officers were transported to the hospital, treated and released.
