"A former student at The School of Visual Arts in New York City has been sentenced to five years in jail for branding an ex-lover after he had sex with her once in 2004 and then neglected to call her.
According to an assistant district attorney, Kristina Caban was the "mastermind behind the plan" to sear the torso of Samir "Sammy" Sara, luring him to a hotel room where her new boyfriend, Robert Testagrossa, and another man were waiting. The men tasered Sammy, while Caban laughed and kicked him. They then branded him by heating up metal wire which had been bent into the shape of a letter "R." It is unclear to attorneys still what the "R" stood for.
Interestingly, both of the assailants come from law enforcement families. Caban's father is a retired Corrections Department captain, while Testagrossa is the son of two prosecutors. James Friedman, who represented Caban in the case, said, "She's a good kid, despite the picture painted of her.""
