I thinking of getting FR500 17x9 in the front and 17x10.5 in the rear. Are 275/40/17 to big to fit in the front of my 98 cobra? When i turn my steering wheel now it sometimes rubs the fenderwell cover. Right now i have 255/45/17s all around.

Thanks for any input.

Can you get 18's? IMO, they would look so much better in 18's. 265 / 35 upfront is the norm for 18's.............

I have 275/40/17 on the front of my 97. I am lowered with eibach pro-kit springs. Last weekend I upgraded from 245s. So far I have no rubbing that Ive noticed.

275/40 will be wider but a little shorter than the 255/45
Your rubbing may be about the same or better than it is now.

Reason? Wider tire= more grip in most cases.

is there a certain reason why 275s would be better to have in the front?

for a street driven car, not really. the excessively wide tires you will feel pull you into every dip in the roadway, almost like you have a trillion degrees of caster.

if you're not racing the thing, keep the smallest front tires possible on the car.

That greatly depends on tire design.
