95-98 had an aircooled motor, 99 and up is water cooled. 5 vs 6 speed, major interior/exterior redesign in 99, um, aside from that, small boosts in hp and more features.

oh and i think they went to a top mount clutch, which was a big change from the floor mounts.

That cant be the 997. The 997 GT3 only puts out 415HP. It was probably the 911 Turbo with its 485HP against that 500HP Gallardo. Porsche was walking away pretty well.

haha. yeah i was gonna say the same thing because I'm pretty sure that both the gt2 and gt3 are both twin turbo.
I think the GT2 was twin turbo, but the GT3 was N/A....I could be wrong, but I think I remember reading that somewhere.

No you are correct.
From Automobile magazine:

When a small, independent automaker like Porsche has two world-premieres at one auto show, it’s big news. It’s even bigger news when the two cars are the downright nutty 480-hp 911 Turbo and this model, the 911 GT3. With 415 horsepower, the GT3 is the most powerful non-turbo 911 road car in Porsche’s history. The car starts with the same high-revving 3.6-liter flat-six as the last GT3, which was derived from the 996-series 911. For the 997-based GT3, Porsche adds a larger throttle valve (82 millimeters in diameter, up from 76 millimeters), new cylinder heads, and a reconfigured exhaust system. Changes have also been made to the car’s six-speed transmission, including shorter ratios for the top five gears and a shifter with even shorter throws. All of these engine and transmission modifications, Porsche claims, results in a 0-to-60-mph time of 4.1 seconds, a 0-to-100-mph time of 8.7 seconds, and a top speed of 193 mph

OK listen up people. 997 is just the body style. The last body style was called the 996,
996_Turbo_02.jpg

and the body b4 that was called the 993.

The 911 is the model of the car, so you can have a 993 911 turbo, 996 911 turbo, and the newest, the 997 911 turbo.

All three (993,996,997) have had GT3 (NA flat 6) models, and the 993 and 996 have had GT2 (Twin turbo, RWD as apposed to the AWD 911 turbo.) The 997 GT2 should come out in a year or two.

Sweet video!! Does the Gallardo have better top end than the Porsche, or was the 997 just letting off at the higher speeds?
