Im thinking of selling my current car and looking for a good daily driver with some power. Im kinda looking for a truck and of course the lightning comes to mind when you think of a powerful truck.

I was also looking at the Trailblazer SS, but heard they have some pretty bad tranny problems and so does the silverado SS from what I hear.
Then I looked at the Jeep SRT8 but they are a little pricey for a dodge product even used, and the dodge srt10 is over priced ugly and a dodge so its definetly out the question.

So I got a few questions for you L owners

1)Would you buy another lightning for use as a DD??
2)Is there any year I should look for or stay away from/ options?
3)What mods should come first??

Oh yeah what kinda times are you L owners running in near stock form?? I would kinda like to have something about as fast as my current ride, an 04 Caddilac CTS-V im not sure what im running now but if i had to guess it would be somewhere b/t 13.2 and 13.5 at about 105-108

Just figured I could throw a pic of the current ride up

Hello, welcome to the site... Nice Caddy lol. :)
I would go with a 2001-2004 for obvious performance reasons.

As far as stock 1/4 mile times...

^I just ran 13.4 BONE STOCK, not one thing done.
With just traction I plan on being around 13.0-13.1

I think a L would be an excellent choice, except for the Gas Mileage if it is your Daily Driver.

I am using my L as a daily driver and it works out well. It gets the same mileage as a regular f-150. I have all the bolt ons that you can put on it.

In stock form the lightning runs pretty close to those times you have posted.

Actually i think its 1999-2002, 03 and 04 had 20 more hp, and the rear end is 373 instead of 355, plus the blowing spark plug issue was fixed, as well as different wheels.

Just read the newbie post.... and I must say it was well done learned alot from it

what kinda gas mileage are you all getting??? it doesnt matter too much to me since i dont drive that much but im curious

how do you fellas do with towing/hauling?? the most I plan on hauling around is a 4wheeler, and maybe a bass boat on ocassion so nothing to heavy

This site makes me want an L even more:rockon:  .. just need to find a buyer for the caddy now

^2001+ they started the 3.73's and has 20+ more horsepower over the 99-00's

01,02,03,04 all the same.

99-00 are different then the above years.

^Yes and towing hitch comes stock as well.
Towing capacity is 5000lbs... excellent.
Gas mileage (I do not drive much either) but seems around 15-16 on the street and 19-20 on the highway.

L can haul and haul a$$

i would find a 03-04 with low milage if you got the cash and can find one

and L is great for a DD

but i had to get a svt focus to save on some gas bills
but i flipped that car 3 weeks after i bought it so the L is back to the DD

That's above avg. You can expect ~14/16 most of the time on a stock truck. Modded, it depends. Some people will still see that as an avg. Mine get's 11 no matter what now.

Welcome btw.

^Nice truck and nice color!
No engine mods, bone stock... is perfect.
oh now I see he has exhaust :( nothing else tho.
I like little more of a rake stance then how he lowered it even(or almost even)
Yes most people seem to like the 01-02 wheels better.
