how exactly do these prevent wheel hop? am i correct to understand that installing these claim to elimate or nearly wheel hop. or is it part of a package designed to do so (ie struts, springs, brace etc etc)?

They help to eliminate wheel hop. Once I installed them and turned them all the way up and in conjunction with aftermarket springs and drag radials....I did not get any wheel hop. I could launch at the drag strip at 3K, dump the clutch and no hop. I hope that helps.
I have had them for about a year and a half using them only at the drag strip and during the winter and some of the spring on the street and then I would take them off. My cobra is not a daily driver.

Did the car have a stiff ride with the shocks turned up?

Most of my driving is on the street and Im concerned with the hop there.

Yes it did. Since I had the nitto's, I ran them on 7 (similiar to the bilstein sports) when I had them installed during the winter and some of the spring. I would crank them all the way up if I knew I was going to be in an area where I would need them ;-)
