Situation: friend is in missouri for school he lives in texas. He drove his 97 GT here and blew a head gasket. He leaves to go back in about a week. Since the whole front of the engine was comming of so he could swap it out and make it easier to remove his long tubes he pulled the engine and trans to do so. he has gotten everything back in hooked up everything and now it will not start.

He has doen the following:
retraced all the wiring to ensure all grounds were connected, changed the battery. He also was able it get it to crank over for about a second (wot do it again though). We though maybe its the starter so we hooked it up directly and the silenoid pops or clicks but thats it. IT make the sound like a dead battery. So we hooked the car up to one of the shop battery chargers and had plenty of juice and the same thing.

is there something else or is it the starter? The starter was fine before he took everything out a week and a half ago.

I'm guessing its a 2v engine. You HAVE to get the timing just perfect on these motors are your just screwed. Theres diagrams on here somewere of how to set it up. Make sure the timings right then go from there.

well today after work we sanded down all the ground points, swapped out the starter, then i rotated the crank with a ratchet for about 3 full rotations. it kicked over and started but was running ruff. The coils seem to be in the wrong spot and not in the right firing order. of course the sharpie i wrote with had rubbed of when he was cleaning them. We tried the manual diagram and it would turn over bun not start..... then if would back fire. he has a 97 block,99 internals, 00 pi head conversion. The block came out of a maurader or a caprice can remember which at least that what he says. any thoughts

Shit man should have made those marks permanent lol. Tell your friend to stop cleaning his engine man! Honestly id say just go through it again and see if you can get it all lined up. It's bound to kick off, just make sure that timing chain is lined up right tho or you'll have some problems.
