I am going to take the wife and kids on a short vacation during the first two weeks of April. Which place would make a better vacation spot for a couple with two children (ages 13 and 5), Florida or Las Vegas? If Florida, what area/beach? If Vegas, are there any points of interest between Ohio and Nevada that are worthing taking a day to stop and visit? We'll be driving to either location, as I want my kids to have the opprotunity to see a little bit of the country. Thanks for any responses.

Well you can hit 675 to 75 and come straight down to FL. Its like 1090ish miles to Orlando. My g/f is from beavercreek and we make that drive 4 times a year.

April is Spring break in Daytona so I'd go to the west coast to clearwater or so. Clearwater is a nice place to stay.

Have you done Disney and all that with the kids? Right now they are running a special to stay on Disney property for a week for 1700 or so.

13 is ok for vegas but 5 maybe too young.

Orlando, no doubt. There's no better place in the world (currently) for family.

Might I recommend Universal, I've always enjoyed going there... Epcot was pretty fun too, and I'm sure all the Disney parks would be enjoyable. Blizzard Beach is rated as the 2nd best water park in the country if your into that. If your looking to gamble some, we have a Seminole HardRock Casino in Eastern Tampa, maybe a little over an hour away from the attractions in Orlando.

Clearwater is kind of far from Orlando... Daytona wouldn’t be so bad, Spring break is more in March and it’s really died down a lot. I'd recommend Cocoa Beach, unless you feel like going to visit south Florida too. The keys are paradise, it really doesn't even seem like your in the United States anymore. From about West Palm Beach south is essentually tropical.

Your kids will not enjoy Vegas until they are well into their teenage years, ie, 18 years old. Disney is an awesome place. I try to go at least once a year. This however may be the first year that I will have missed out in a long time.

March 30th through April 1st...

I did security last year on the beach, it really wasn't bad. Not that many people came into town. Daytona Beach used to be very dangerous during BCR but not many people come into town for it anymore, it was relatively dead actually. I can't even describe how many police there were, it was kind of amazing. But yeah, I would avoid Daytona Beach during that time period.

Yeah. I just avoid Daytona March through April usually.

February too, try driving in race week traffic. The Rolex is about the only desirable event to attend. I'm not sure when bike week is but that's a headache as well. I really don't miss living in that city.

I go to the 500 every year (but this one) so I'm all too familiar with the speedweeks traffic.

Yeah I call around for off-season rates before I hit the east coast.

Orlando is for kids; Vegas is for gamblers and drunks.

After visiting Disney, Epcot, Universal, MGM, etc. stop off at Gatorland, or take an airboat ride. Go gocart racing or play golf. Lots to do for kids and adults. I liked it so much I bought three timeshare weeks, and have been going down every year for 15 years. Never been bored.

Well you're jaded if you live there. I live 30 minutes from Daytona Beach but I always take everybody from the north there.

If you're there all the time its not special.

I disagree. I went to Vegas with my family when i was around 10-12 years of age. It was my favorite place ever! the trick is just to know what you are going to do. Plan ahead and make sure you do a lot of kid friendly activities like the Cirque O'le (sp?) shows, Star trek experience, Imperial palace car museum, Ferrari dealership, thrill rides/rollercoasters, and maybe drive out to the Hoover Dam.

There is plenty to do for children over in vegas. With that said, Disney is the ultimate childrens paradise. If I had children, I would take them to Disney over Vegas.
