Well, yesterday was my first day at the track with my cobra (mods in sig). Was a little dissappointed when my runs were a consistent 14.1-14.2. I was launching at around 3k (no irs brace, didn't want to break it) and shifting at 5k...Towards the end of the day someone told me that in a cammed car I should shift later, so the last 2 runs I shifted at 6k and what a difference!!
My best time ended up being a 13.870 @105.98 mph, the next run was a 13.921 @107.07 mph. When I came back with those time slips he told me to try and hold my shift till about 62-6300 rpm, but unfortunately no more runs were allowed. I will surely be trying that little tip next time.

As you all can tell, I'm a drag strip noob.:bash:

Redline should be 6800, wind it out to 6500-7k if you have cams. I have a Mach one and shift: 1/2 @ 6800, 2/3 @ 6500, 3/4 @6300-6500. Wind it out and that MPH will climb a bunch. Stock 99's trap 104-108 depending on location and stock cam setting.

BTW, Long Tubes, ported intake, 90mm MAF and TB would do wonders for those cams. Make you 350+RWHp and watch it fly.

I see you have Hp numbers in your sig, so im assuming you've had her on the dyno. Just pull the the car to the rpm that the HP begins to fall, or just past it 100rpm's or so. That should make a big difference. You should trap at least 110-111mph with mods in sig.

when i took my car to bremerton on street tires i always launched from idle even with stock gears because it would spin through second and chirp third and i shifted at 7000 and i always got 1.8 to 2.0 60fts and 13.2 to 13.03 at 109mph the one time i revved it up to 3000 i blew up the rear lol

Not on street tires, I'm on MTET Street Radials...60ft 2.246 launching around 3k, and 1/8th 9.119 @ 80.99mph

At the 3k dump I was doing it always gave me the jitters because it sounded like it was going to blow apart and I would spin just a little bit but anything less I would bog, so I just continued 3k dumps. I'll have to try launching at idle and see where that gets me.
What mods are done to your car?

As you all can tell, I'm a track newb

You should be able to get much better 60' than that on Mickeys. Those are street tire times right there, no reason you should be doing that on sticky drag radials.

With more practice I bet you could get sub 2 second and gain almost half a second if not more at the end.

I think what it is, is that I'm launching at about 3k, jumps forward, bogs, then goes..So when I go again I plan on trying to launch from idle and see where that gets me
