I own a 04 Cobra with a Magnaflow Cat back & JLT CAI. I was up to my local ford dealer and a black 2001 saleen 281 SC pulls in. We got talking and I found out that he has the same mods as me except he had long tube headers with x-pipe. He said he just bought it and recently produced 425 RWHP on dyno. I talked him into running from a 20 mph roll. We went out to the highway and on three horns we went. I was in first gear. I put my foot to the floor and I hooked up as he did also. I could not believe it. I was about 2 car lengths on him by the time I hit second. By the time I hit third I was about 4 cars on him. I let up about 100 and he passed on by and waved.

No, not on the older ones. The pre '05's come with an Eaton M-90.

Yeah those year Saleens had the Eaton, smaller than the one that comes on the Cobra. 425rwhp is pretty good with that blower.
the 2001 is around 365hp....he's not making near the hp he claims on those kind of mods.

2001 The Engine: The 2001 Saleen S281 sports a 4.6 liter, 2V modular engine with a standard output of 285 hp. Saleen uses a new premium fuel calibration, special underdrive pulleys and a new exhaust system. For 2001, the optional Saleen "Roots" Supercharger boosts power to 365 hp, a 15 horsepower increase over last year's model. The S281 is certified to meet model year 2001 low emission vehicle standards (LEV)
Tests have shown the base model S281 to reach 60 miles per hour in just 5.2 seconds with a quarter-mile in 14.1 seconds at 98 miles per hour. The supercharged S281 does 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and a quarter-mile in 13.2 seconds.
Published magazine articles have the cars running between 13.4's and 13.8's on street tires, depending on who you believe.

I found the claim hard to beleive myself.
It could be true if it were an s281E, but without a good deal of mods a standard s281 s/c won't make that much power.. also for the record a saleen s281 does not run a whipple..
also I'm not sure the s281E was a 2001 model.. sounds like he was BSing you..

the s281E is a monster, 425hp and that was pre 04, i think they bumped em up to 485 in 04, it had to be an s/c
I have the real story now. I ran into a friend of mine who knows the car real well. The guy apearently lied about his dyno. He saw the dyno print out and it was 328 to the wheels. This makes more sense why I beat him so bad. The guy thinks he said that because he is putting on a upper and lower pully next week. I'll be looking for him.
