Finding The Vin On An Engine?

I want to buy engine, but want to look up the history. I need to locate the Vin number on the engine. It is a 01 Bullit engine. Any help where I can locate it? Thanks!

The valve cover should have the build date..

You will not find the vin on an engine. Just the build date and serial number. The vin would'nt help you out anyway. All it would tell you is the engine that came in the car originally, which you already know.
